TITLE: Lead Substitute
FLSA: Non-exempt
TERMS: Salary in accord with the district salary scale for classified employees. Work year is
comprised of 180 days per academic year as established annually by the Board.
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under direct supervision, provides general instructional and teaching assistance as the lead substitute. Conducts such duties to support the daily instructional operations of the school. Reports to Principal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Serves as substitute in classroom on a daily basis.
Assists others substitutes in room location, expectations, etc.
Works with building teachers to ensure location of substitute information, schedule, etc. as teachers prepare to be absent.
Provide and maintain proper supervision of students at all times.
Follow district and school rules, policies and procedures.
Perform duties outlined by the teacher and school administration.
Record attendance according to school procedure.
Follow teacher's instructions for lesson plan, or create lesson plan if none is available.
Provide appropriate instructional and learning strategies to support student learning needs.
Assign homework according to lesson plan.
Supplement lesson plan with other classroom activities, if time allows.
Maintain discipline in the classroom and foster a safe, productive learning environment in accordance with school policies.
Enforce the behavior code in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Communicate effectively, accurately, and clearly.
Communicate with the building administrators of any necessary questions and concerns.
Be a positive role model for students.
Willingly performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
High school graduate with a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment Test for Instructional Assistants, or a 2-year college degree, or 60 hours of college credit. A good knowledge of and understanding of child growth and development; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge
Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Working knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and operations. General knowledge of modern office equipment such as typewriters, copiers, and calculators. Knowledge of clerical functions such as typing, filing and sorting. Knowledge in the application of classroom instruction and teaching.
Skills/Effort
Skill in the use of general office equipment such as calculators, typewriters, computers, copiers, etc. Good written and verbal communication, organization, basic mathematical, and telephone skills. Ability to interact with co-workers, students and school staff in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to provide assistance to teachers in classroom situations.
Working Conditions
Conducts duties in an office environment with some exposure to environmental conditions, primarily due to the outside supervision of students. Physical demands are restricted to office work requiring the lifting/moving of items weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional local travel may be required; no overnight travel is required. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.
Responsibility
