Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Printing Maintenance Technician provides technical support to the print cell team by ensuring that the machines are maintained and operating at optimum efficiency. Technicians are responsible for changeovers and preventative maintenance on all printing machines, communicating machine issues, reporting performance and repairs to Team Members and Management. They are responsible for completing required documentation, work orders, logbooks and company records.

They are also responsible for contributing to a human work environment where fairness, equity and non-discriminatory practices are the standard.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Troubleshoot machine issues by identifying, reporting, and performing emergency repairs
  • Execute work orders and other repairs (e.g. Clean and lubricate machines).
  • Communicate to the Group Lead or Production Supervisor of any performance issues and repairs that would and/or could affect production, safety or quality.
  • Execute the following changeover duties efficiently; mandrel changes, flame set-up, feeder re-stacker, change conveyors, change counter, fine tune flame re-stacker, change or set-up feed screws, sanitize machine and sign-off.
  • Record the production issues on the shift reports.
  • Update schedule board with equipment issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on the machines in the assigned areas. This includes (but not limited to) the following:
    • Adjusting the colour head inter roller pressure to ensure that 1/16” line is maintained
    • Inspection and replacement of machine wearable components as necessary.
    • Greasing six and eight colour machines every other day.
    • Clean up grease buildup off of the gears and other parts of the machine.
    • Ensuring that wash up tray is kept in optimum condition (the general condition of the tray and the cleaning blade).
    • Regular inspection of filters and monthly replacement
    • Regular inspection and monthly replacement of exhaust pipe
    • General machine clean up (all aspects of internal parts of machine, especially the gears)
    • Ensuring colour heads are maintained at optimum running condition
    • Checking cooling system for operation and water level.
    • Inspection and repair of other equipment such as conveyors tape machine, label dispenser, etc.
  • Perform work in compliance with company safety rules and HACCP practices.
  • Assist other technicians as required.
  • Execute any other tasks and/or additional work as assigned by Production Supervisor Management.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Qualifications:

  • Certified Industrial Mechanic Millwright or equivalent work experience
  • Gas Technician licensing (G2/G3)
  • Minimum two years’ experience on high-speed packaging equipment

 

Additional Skills:

  • Ability to make repairs using machine shop equipment
  • Ability to replace bearings, bushings, shafts, gears and belts.
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints
  • Good basic understanding of the principles of pneumatics
  • Proficient in the use of mechanics’ hand tools and in using precision measuring tools
  • Performs work in compliance with company safety rules and practices
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Safety and Housekeeping are every Team Member’s responsibility
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision but follow directions to produce good quality of work
  • Good trouble shooting skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills in English
