CNC Oilfield Services is a leading oil and gas service company, providing reliable transportation solutions to the industry. We are currently seeking an Assistant Operator to join our team. The Torque & Test Assistant Operator is an entry-level field position responsible for supporting pressure testing and bolting operations in oilfield environments. This role assists the lead operator in the safe and efficient execution of torquing, hydro-testing, and flange management tasks, while learning the technical skills required to progress within the Torque & Test division. The Assistant Operator ensures equipment is prepared, maintained, and used in accordance with company policies and safety regulations, and performs duties that are physically demanding and time sensitive.

Job Duties, Responsibilities, and Essential Functions

  • Assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance of torque and test equipment at field locations.
  • Support hydrostatic testing, torquing, and pressure verification operations on drilling, completion, and production sites.
  • Perform rig-up and rig-down of equipment and ensure all tools are cleaned, inspected, and stored correctly after each job.
  • Follow all instructions from the Lead Operator, including reading and understanding job scopes, torque values, and pipe specifications provided by the customer representative.
  • Accurately complete field documentation, including work tickets, JSA (Job Safety Analysis) forms, DVIRs (Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports), and equipment checklists.
  • Drive company vehicles to and from job sites, as needed.
  • Maintain communication with dispatch, supervisors, and field personnel to ensure job readiness and report any safety or mechanical concerns.
  • Monitor and assist with the calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hydraulic torque tools, pumps, hoses, fittings, and rigging components.
  • Always adhere to company and customer PPE requirements, including hardhat, FR clothing, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots.
  • Participate in pre-job safety meetings and understand job-specific hazards.
  • Support the inspection and management of flanges and bolting data as part of Flange Management documentation practices.
  • Perform and document static torque checks when directed.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed in compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), DOT regulations, and customer requirements.

Operational & Safety Procedures

  • Understand and follow all site-specific safety guidelines and CNC Oilfield Services safety policies.
  • Participate in job safety briefings and hazard recognition assessments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free worksite and vehicle.
  • Exercise Stop Work Authority (SWA) when encountering unsafe conditions.
  • Safely use rigging equipment, pressure-testing tools, and mechanical torque systems in high-pressure environments.
  • Immediately report any equipment malfunctions, near-misses, or safety incidents to the supervisor.

Requirements

Required Skills & Abilities

Licensing & Certification Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test and background screen
  • PEC Safety Certification (or ability to obtain)
  • H2S Awareness (preferred)
  • First Aid/CPR (preferred)

Technical & Operational Skills:

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and power tools
  • Understanding of hydraulic systems and pressure testing concepts (preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of torque wrench operation and hydrostatic testing procedures
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately
  • Familiarity with job ticket and invoice documentation
  • Basic troubleshooting and mechanical repair ability is a plus

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Extreme weather conditions include heat, cold, wind, rain, and mud.
  • Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting.
  • Must be able to lift 75+ pounds frequently.
  • May be required to work long hours, including weekends and holidays, with rotating on-call schedules
  • Exposure to high-pressure equipment, heavy machinery, loud noise, and hazardous materials.

This role requires strong attention to detail due to the safety-sensitive nature of the job. Employees must follow all safety procedures, comply with regulations and company policies, and always maintain situational awareness.
