Primary Purpose
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area of English Language Arts designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate certification as required by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
Certification in Core Subjects EC–6 or appropriate elementary certification
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Strategies
Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district curriculum and show written evidence of preparation as required
Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and needs
Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), board policies, and administrative regulations
Use technology to strengthen the teaching and learning process
Student Growth and Development
Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing
Provide feedback to students, parents, and administrators regarding student progress
Classroom Management
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and campus expectations
Professional Growth and Development
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills
Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies
Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
Working Conditions
Maintain emotional control under stress
Work prolonged or irregular hours when necessary
Frequent standing, walking, and light lifting
Salary
Salary based on Dew ISD teacher salary schedule and years of experience.
