    Position Summary:  To develop students' skills and competence in various areas of Career & Technical Education.


    Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree with extensive knowledge of content area including but not limited to networking, robotics, and/or cybersecurity.  Appropriate NJ High School Teaching Certificate.

     
    Essential Duties:  The High School CTE Teacher has the duties and responsibilities commonly associated with this position, including (but not limited to) the following, which are performed directly or through the proper delegation of authority, within the framework of the general laws of New Jersey, the regulations of the NJ State Department of Education, the policies and rules of the Nutley School District, and the terms of the contract with the Nutley Education Association, with all of which he/she is expected to be familiar. As well, the position is responsible for duties commonly associated with communication positions, which are performed directly or through the proper delegation of authority.
     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

    • Develops and administers technology education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives; develops technology units to be delivered in the classroom or technology lab.
    • Teaches skill and knowledge in computational thinking, programming, data representation, digital media processing, and innovative technology.
    • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
    • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, and utilizes appropriate equipment for subject area; translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
    • Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of technical skills to everyday existence; guides students in the selection of projects or experiments.
    • Instructs students in the proper and safe use, care and storage of tools, machines and equipment.
    • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
    • Maintains familiarity with district and New Jersey State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
    • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
    • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
    • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
    • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
    • Coordinates with other professionals including High School Administration, District Supervisor, staff members, and others for the purpose of maximizing the uses and effectiveness of technology in student learning activities.
    • Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records; ensures machines and equipment are in proper working order.  

    General Duties and Responsibilities: 

    • Uphold and enforce school, administrative, board and state rules, regulations and policies.
    • Implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
    • Assume responsibility for condition of assigned room(s) and for equipment and materials issued for his/her use.
    • Communicate with parents and school personnel as necessary to discuss pupil progress under direction of the building principal.
    • Maintain required records, completes reports, and handles other routine assignments in an appropriate and punctual manner.
    • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs as assigned.
    • Maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive school and classroom environment.
    • Develop lesson plans and assists in the selection of textbooks and other instructional materials to adapt to the curriculum.
    • Maintain professional development through participation in such activities as in-service education, workshops, and self-selected professional growth activities.
    • Attend school-related night activities when necessary and according to school policy.
    • Maintain a safe school environment.
    • Identify pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve learning, social, and attitude problems.
    • Promote satisfactory pupil progress and growth toward curriculum objectives
    • Group students for instructional purposes or activities so as to enhance pupil performance and provide for individual needs.
    • Perform other duties or responsibilities assigned by the building principal or central office administrators. 

    Evaluation of PerformancePerformance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code and Board of Education Policy.
     
    Additional Responsibilities: Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal or superintendent may assign or delegate.
     
    Computer Skills:  Proficient in computer applications pertinent to support the position.

    Salary/Benefits: This position is offered medical and dental benefits. Salary range is $67,000 - 83,000.
