    Job Summary

The Culture & Climate Coach / School Safety Officer plays a dual role in fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environment while supporting positive student behavior and campus security. This position is focused on relationship-building, prevention, and student support, not enforcement alone. The role emphasizes proactive supervision, conflict de-escalation, restorative practices, and collaboration with staff to promote a positive school climate where all students feel safe, respected, and supported.

    Key Responsibilities

    Culture, Climate & Student Support

    • Build positive, trusting relationships with students through daily presence, mentoring, and modeling respectful behavior

    • Support schoolwide positive behavior systems (PBIS), social-emotional learning (SEL), and restorative practices

    • Assist students in resolving conflicts using age-appropriate de-escalation and problem-solving strategies

    • Support students during transitions (arrival, dismissal, recess, lunch, hallway movement)

    • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to address behavioral concerns proactively

    • Reinforce school expectations and help students understand and practice appropriate behavior

    • Serve as a positive adult role model who reflects the district's values of equity, inclusion, and respect

    Safety & Security

    • Monitor school grounds, buildings, and common areas to ensure a safe and orderly environment

    • Assist with visitor check-in procedures and campus access control in accordance with district policy

    • Respond calmly and appropriately to safety concerns, behavioral incidents, or emergencies

    • Support emergency preparedness procedures, drills, and safety protocols

    • Document incidents accurately and communicate concerns promptly to administration

    • Maintain visibility on campus to deter unsafe behavior while remaining approachable to students

    Collaboration & Communication

    • Work closely with school staff to support classroom and campus needs

    • Communicate respectfully and professionally with students, staff, families, and visitors

    • Participate in professional development related to school safety, trauma-informed practices, and student behavior support

    Qualifications

    Required

    • High school diploma or equivalent

    • Experience working with children, youth, or school-aged populations

    • Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in high-stress situations

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    • Commitment to supporting a positive, inclusive elementary school environment

    • Ability to pass background checks and meet district employment requirements

    Preferred

    • Prior experience in school safety, youth mentoring, behavior support, or campus supervision

    • Training in PBIS, SEL, restorative practices, conflict resolution, or trauma-informed care

    • Experience working in elementary school settings

    • Bilingual abilities (as applicable to district needs)

    Physical & Work Requirements

    • Ability to stand, walk, and supervise for extended periods

    • Ability to respond quickly to safety situations

    • Work primarily outdoors and indoors in a school environment

    • Ability to lift up to district-specified weight limits if required

    Work Schedule

    • School-year position; hours aligned with the student day (before/after school coverage as assigned)

    Core Competencies

    • Relationship-driven approach to student behavior

    • Cultural responsiveness and equity-centered mindset

    • Proactive safety awareness
