The UW Institute for Neurodiversity and Employment (INE) is a new collaborative effort to bring together leading scholars and practitioners from various disciplines to build the capacity of the University of Washington, Washington State, and the nation to create meaningful employment opportunities and career experiences for neurodivergent people. We carry out our mission in collaboration with community leaders, employers, nonprofits, and foundations through translational research, applied professional education and training, community empowerment, advocacy, and leading the way as a neuroinclusive university and employer. The Institute champions the integration of studied workplace practices that support neurodiverse workers, prioritizing equity and accessibility for Institute staff, faculty, students, and guests.

 

Position Description

The University of Washington Information School is seeking a UW graduate student to provide programmatic and administrative support for the UW Institute for Neurodiversity and Employment.

The Graduate Staff Assistant will work with INE staff and faculty leaders to support Institute programs, outreach, communications, and website development.

The Graduate Staff Assistant will perform some or all of the responsibilities listed below for an average of 20 hours per week over the course of summer quarter. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Help design, update, and maintain the institute's website, with a focus on neuroinclusion and accessibility compliance

  • Support upcoming info sessions and workshop events

  • Assist with office logistics and administrative operations

  • Support administrative data management and reporting

  • Carry out benchmark research and other information gathering and maintenance tasks

  • Support creating communication materials

  • Support administrative aspects of project management

  • Help maintain and update the Institute calendar

  • May help advise or mentor summer high school students

  • Fulfill front office duties and maintenance

  • Other research support and administrative duties as needed. 

 

Start Date Flexibility: If the selected candidate is available, the iSchool may bring them on a couple of weeks prior to the summer start date at a reduced FTE for onboarding and training purposes. The primary appointment is Summer 2026, averaging 20 hours per week.

 

Compensation:

Depending on summer enrollment, the pay for this position could be hourly or salaried.

If the hired applicant enrolls in two or more credits during summer quarter, they will be hired into the salaried Graduate Staff Assistant position and paid on Schedule 1 rates in accordance with their graduate program’s Schedule 1 rates in the salary schedule.

If the hired applicant does not enroll in credits during summer session, they will be hired into the hourly  Graduate Student Academic Assistant (GSAA) position and paid in accordance with their graduate program’s Summer 2026 Hourly RA/TA/SA/PDI Salary rates.

TA/RA/SA/Predoctoral instructors and their dependents may be eligible to receive UW-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage through the Graduate Appointee Insurance Program (GAIP); may be eligible for one personal holiday and up to 10 paid holidays; and may be awarded up to 28 hours of sick time off (prorated based on FTE).

Requirements 

  • Current University of Washington graduate student (all UW Master’s and PhD students are eligible)
  • Experience with website design, development, or content management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across a diversity of people, groups, and situations
  • Basic knowledge of project management tools and practices
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines reliably

 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards and WordPress experience a plus
  • Interest in neurodiversity, disability studies, employment equity, or related fields
  • Experience with event coordination, communications, or administrative support
