Job Description

 Posting Information: We are currently hiring a Native Education Para Tech with Shelton School District beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. Open until filled. For best consideration, please apply by April 29th, 2026.

Interview Process: Applicants are encouraged to apply by the deadline provided above. If selected for an interview, you will be invited to complete an Asynchronous Virtual Interview. Candidates chosen for a second round interview will participate in an in-person interviews at a date to be determined.

Schedule: 6.5 hours per day; M-F. This position is temporary for the 26/27 school year, but may be extended into future school years based on student enrollment, funding, and program need.

Location: Multiple Locations

Salary:  $26.62 - $29.75 per hour, depending on experience. Salary Range is based on the 25/26 Salary Schedule with the Educational Support Personnel (ESP) Collective Bargaining Agreement.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (overtime eligible)

Benefits: 12 sick leave days; Up to 12 paid holidays; 6 personal leave days (to be deducted from sick leave); 5 bereavement leave days; (leave to be pro-rated by employee's scheduled work days for the school year); health insurance benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) including medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance; other fringe benefits as allowed under under School Board Policies and Procedures and the Educational Support Personnel Collective Bargaining Agreement.

JOB SUMMARY:

Our Native Education Para Educators support the Shelton School District's Strategic Plan and School Improvement Plans through assisting students, teachers and other certificated personnel with student instructional needs, providing instruction on Native American Culture, participating in meetings or trainings; providing clerical and general support assistance; supervising students in the school/instructional setting; coordinating people, services and events for the Native Education Program; and assisting families in securing resources to meet needs of students.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • AA, 90 college credits, or passing of the ParaPro Assessment
  • Ability to pass a Federal criminal background check.
  • Ability to complete 28 hours of District provided training within the first school year of employment as required by statute.
  • Successful experiencing working with students with developmental disabilities (preferred, not required).
  • Ability to use computers and various software packages with proficiency.
  • Demonstrated communication skills written with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech; speaking with poise, voice control and confidence, using correct English and well-modulate voice.
  • Demonstrates high energy and professionalism.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
  • Dealing with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
  • Read a variety of materials with understanding.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises students in a variety of settings.
  • Supports classroom teachers including but not limited to
    • Providing instruction in reading, writing, and math under the supervision of the teacher;
    • Conducting family engagement activities;
    • Preparing and organizing classroom materials;
    • Cleaning and disinfecting toys and mats;
    • Providing support in learning centers;
    • Assisting in the implementation of student educational plans;
    • Assisting with classroom management.
  • Attends trainings and meetings as appropriate or directed.
  • Provides students with opportunities and instruction to learn about their Native American Culture for the purpose of learning and understanding about their heritage.
  • Provides clerical and general program support assistance (e.g., collecting, and inputting data, correspondence, copying, filing, preparing and organizing instructional materials) for the purpose of documenting student progress and providing general support for the program related to learning goals and objectives for students.
  • Assists with the Native Education Program for the purpose of maintaining the program and providing services to identified and eligible students.
  • Develops and maintains professional, positive relationships with staff, students, and families.
  • Collaborates with staff to achieve student, class, building, and District goals. 
  • Supports families in securing resources for the purpose of meeting individual needs of eligible students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
