GENERAL SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the pharmacists and the Pharmacy Manager. The Pharmacy Technician's primary job function is to assist the Pharmacist in the preparation and distribution of medications, inventory, and stock replacement. Assures the appropriate billing for SOMC patient and staff. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
• Enrolled in, completion of a board approved Pharmacy Technician training program or National Certification required
Licensure:
• Successful completion of National Qualification test required
• State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration required
Experience:
• Pharmacy Technician training program or national certification required.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Fills floor stock from stock requisitions/inventory reconciliation/and computer-generated pick lists.
2. Fill the inpatient carts by a Pharmacy Info System generated fill list report for pharmacist check-off.
3. Profiles physician orders in computer system for pharmacist review.
4. Reconciles I.V.'s, and/or critical care drips on the floor and makes necessary adjustments on time and rate.
5. Has knowledge of all drugs used in Surgery (brand/generic names), strength of drugs, and charge mechanism for patient billing.
6. Ability to recognize narcotic discrepancies and perform audits as necessary.
7. Restocks anesthesia carts in OR suites in a timely and efficient manner.
8. Delivers medications to nursing units/hospital departments; Accomplishes hourly medication runs to nursing units/hospital departments.
9. Enters patient charges/credits into computer profile system.
10. Checks incoming orders of medications and pharmacy supplies against purchase requisitions for accuracy and completeness.
11. Provides prompt, efficient, and courteous service to pharmacy window and telephone inquiries; takes messages when necessary or directs inquiry to the appropriate person.
12. Communicates with Purchasing Agent regarding stock levels and items needed to assure adequate inventory. Assures stock rotation and placement of items in appropriate storage areas.
13. Responsible for general cleanliness of work area/department.
• The following duties are only to be performed by a Qualified or National Certified Pharmacy Technician
0. Prepares I.V. solutions, hyperalimentations, doses of medications for dispensing for pharmacist, and/or small volume parenterals using proper sterile techniques.
1. Engage in the compounding of any drug.
2. Package or label any drug.
