Description
The duties of a Lifeguard, in conjunction with the Pool Manager and Head Guards, are to ensure the safety of patrons and co-workers at the Dowell Naylor Aquatic Center. Lifeguards will also be responsible for bringing attention to any hazardous materials or situations, and reporting them as such to the Pool Manager or Head Guards.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
1. Maintain cleanliness of the pool, deck, lockers, locker rooms, restrooms, office, and surrounding areas.
2. Correctly file all reports, checklists and records with the correct terminals.
3. Serve as a positive representative of the Aquatic Center, maintaining a professional and positive demeanor at all times.
4. Maintain knowledge of all Aquatic Center rules, and be able to explain why each of them are enforced.
5. Communicate to patrons and other staff in a professional and personable manner.
6. Must be knowledgeable and proficient at all rescue skills (Lifeguard, CPR, AED, and First Aide).
7. Other duties as assigned by the Pool Manager or Activities Coordinator.

- Must be capable of performing all essential functions of a Lifeguard.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 100 pounds.
- Must be certified as a Lifeguard before May 31st, 2026.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
A Lifeguard must frequently stand, walk, talk and hear. Occasionally sit; use hands to handle objects, and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent must also climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color, distance, and peripheral vision. Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus are also required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position the incumbent is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The incumbent is also exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
