Role Purpose: Provides leadership, guidance and direction to employees working in the molding and trim departments.  Oversees operation to meet production schedules while maintaining safety and hygiene standards. Responsible for improving productivity and reducing scrap. Creates a positive work environment. Responsible for or provides recommendations on interviewing, corrective action, terminations, performance reviews and wage changes.

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:  

 

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, utilizing mathematical equations requiring addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division when needed.

 

  • Distributes and directs daily work assignments to all department employees, as well as monitor assignments for timely completion. Coordinates machine time and schedules.

 

  • Coordinates tooling and equipment availability with moulding maintenance, which includes ensuring that preventative maintenance is performed.

 

  • Determines departmental work schedules/assignments and verify/approve overtime.

 

  • Integrates with other company departments to coordinate activities for timely/accurate completion of production.

 

  • Makes recommendations for solutions to manufacturing and other relevant problems to include monitoring part rejects, assisting in determining solutions to manufacturing problems.

 

  • Visually monitor the quality of finished parts, comparing to blueprints.

 

  • Assists the Human Resource Department in hiring and counselling department employees.  Responsible for disciplining, evaluating and motivating department employees.

 

  • Approves vacations, sick days, other absences, and personal holidays for department employees.  Responsible for reporting all absences and tardiness to the Human Resources Department and Plant Manager.

 

  • Reviews and approves employee timecards for payroll processing.

 

  • Completes new employee orientation and enforces all safety procedures for protective clothing, safety gear, equipment and chemical usage and any other company-imposed policy.

 

  • Attends management meetings as required.

 

  • Monitors and maintains the departmental budget.

 

  • Ensures that all equipment receives immediate service from vendor or maintenance personnel when repairs or routine maintenance are required.

 

  • Trains all department employees to perform their job in an efficient and accurate manner as well as monitor their daily progress by evaluating productivity.

 

  • Reviews production requirements and creates, implements, and adjusts procedures and schedules to meet goals.

 

  • Maintains production records and ensures production workers are completing records correctly and timely.

 

  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product. Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency.

 

  • Drives effectiveness of department through innovative performance management.

 

  • Analyzes and recommends manpower requirements, recommends qualifications and individuals for hire.

 

  • Assists with writing and issuing Standard Operating Procedures.

 

  • Interprets company policies to employees and enforces safety regulations and procedures.

 

  • In absence of higher management, determines when equipment should be shut down and manages emergency and life-threatening situations and/or determines correct course of action.

 

  • Ensures that all moulding personnel follow and comply with GMP and all molding specifications.

 

  • Requisitions all materials, supplies, spare tooling, and equipment, as required.

 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

 

  • High school diploma with a minimum of 3-5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment but will consider an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to work with individuals or groups; plan; organize and prioritize workload.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications, good math skills and mechanical aptitude.
