Position Duties
This is a student position that plays a key role in supporting the university community by assisting with Brightspace/D2L technical support for students, faculty, and staff, while also contributing creative design and communication support for departmental projects, programs, and activities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the essential job functions outlined below. The position operates under close supervision, allowing for skill development with limited latitude for independent judgment.
QUALIFICATIONSThe minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
Availability to work during summer hours is required.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided. Strong understanding of graphic design principles and a keen eye for visual composition, branding, and detail is preferred. Proficiency with industry-standard creative tools, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Canva, and other graphic design, page layout, and web design applications is preferred. Ability to stay current with evolving technologies, continuously updating skills, and adapting to new software and design trends is preferred. Familiarity with social media platforms, trends, and best practices, with experience creating engaging digital content tailored for various audiences is preferred. Ability to work efficiently and independently, managing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Effectively resolves help desk requests and provides exceptional front-line support by answering emails, phone calls, routing inquiries, taking messages, and welcoming visitors.
- Responds promptly and professionally to all email and phone inquiries, ensuring timely communication and superior customer service.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of Brightspace/D2L support emails and phone calls, ensuring all interactions are properly logged and documented.
- Assists in planning, preparing, and implementing departmental projects and program activities to support overall team goals.
- Collaborates with technical departments to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently, ensuring seamless technical operations.
- Contributes creative design expertise by developing graphic content for departmental use across print and digital platforms while maintaining an organized archive of materials.
- Ensures high-quality visual output by editing and enhancing images through scanning, adjustments, corrections, and artistic manipulation.
- Adheres to departmental branding standards to maintain consistency, quality, and alignment with established graphic identity guidelines.
- Provides general office support by assisting staff with routine clerical duties and administrative tasks as needed.
- May train/mentor student workers to ensure effective performance and support of departmental functions.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to walk to various locations on campus. Ability to lift/carry objects (occasionally).
Minimum Qualifications
This is an on-campus position working approximately 20 hours per week, not to exceed 115 total working hours per month for all student assistant assignments. This position is scheduled between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Ability to work summer hours is required.

Other Qualifications
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
