TITLE: High School Assistant Coach
REPORTS TO: Head Coach; Assistant Principal of Athletics/Activities and/or Building Principal
BARGAINING UNIT: Central Valley Coaches Association (CVCA)
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the assigned sport program. This includes assisting
with instruction, supervision, logistics, compliance with WIAA and district regulations, and contributing to a safe
and inclusive team environment that reflects the values of leadership, sportsmanship, and excellence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Support the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, contests, and team events.
2. Model and reinforce leadership, sportsmanship, and positive team culture.
3. Assist with supervising student-athletes during practices, contests, travel, and events.
4. Help maintain accurate attendance, training records, and athlete documentation through FinalForms.
5. Support the Head Coach in the inventory, maintenance, and organization of equipment and uniforms.
6. Promote academic accountability and support for all athletes in coordination with school staff.
7. Help enforce team rules, district policies, and athletic codes of conduct.
8. Ensure compliance with all WIAA, league, and district rules and safety guidelines.
9. Maintain current and valid certifications in First Aid, CPR, and WIAA-required trainings.
10. Attend required coaching meetings and professional development sessions.
11. Participate in athlete recognition events and support team communications with families and staff.
12. Collaborate with other coaching staff to provide a safe, organized, and developmentally appropriate
experience for all student-athletes.
13. Saturday practices may be required based on program needs.
14. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or Principal.
REQUIREMENTS & CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Must pass a criminal background check at the candidate’s expense as a condition of employment.
• Maintain valid First Aid and CPR certifications.
• Complete all WIAA-required coaching standards and annual trainings (including Vector modules and
bloodborne pathogens).
• Use FinalForms to maintain required athlete and training documentation.
• Adhere to all expectations outlined in the CVCA Collective Bargaining Agreement and district policy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess the physical ability and stamina to participate in athletic practices and events and respond to
emergency situations when necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Coaching experience in the assigned sport preferred.
• Ability to positively engage with students, staff, and families.
• Familiarity with WIAA rules, league standards, and district procedures.
• Commitment to supporting equity, inclusion, and student growth in athletics.
• Willingness to take direction from the Head Coach and contribute collaboratively to the team environment.
