Position Summary: Senior Level Custodian who directs the work of other school custodians. Trains custodial staff, assists with planning, assigning and directing work. Regularly performs duties of a School Custodian. Works under direct supervision of the Custodial Supervisor. Promotes a positive attitude, customer service satisfaction, high ethics and integrity, is transparent and treats all staff fairly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follows established cleaning procedures and schedules.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from Supervisor or Manager.
- Maintains control of custodial supplies reporting status to Custodial Supervisor.
- Makes sure that all tools and equipment are maintained, used properly and safely by custodial staff.
- Operate various types of equipment such as wet/dry vac, floor equipment, hand truck, washer/dryer.
- Regularly performs the cleaning duties of a School Custodian.
- Keep logbook for Integrated Pest Management.
- Submits Maintenance Work Requests for damage and/or repairs using online work order system.
- Attends training and safety briefings as required.
- Assists in set-up of special events, sports functions and school activities.
- Ensure building doors are secured during rounds.
- Performs regularly scheduled tasks in a timely manner within assigned working hours.
- Adheres to all district policies and procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Assigns work duties during regular shifts and project work during school breaks.
- Organizes adequate coverage of all areas by using personnel efficiently when others are absent.
- Trains new custodians.
- Performs inspections to ensure cleaning schedules are being followed and completed.
- Evaluates custodian work performance and reports any concerns in writing to the Supervisor.
- May suggest promotions, discipline or termination of employees, but must have documentation to support such issues.
- Implements all new processes, rules, policies and procedures with a positive attitude.
- Keeps Supervisor updated on progress and completion of any projects.
- Working knowledge of all custodial areas including tasks, equipment, and work processes.
- Follows proper reporting protocol for any incidents or accidents.
- Provides direction, leadership and training to custodial team members.
- Motivates staff by offering a positive work environment, recognition of achievement, offering additional training to assist with improved performance and by setting a good example in the workplace.
- Instills customer satisfaction, high quality and ethics, promoting a team-oriented concept.
Knowledge, Special Skills and Experience Required or Desired:
- Prior custodial experience required.
- Ability to effectively lead and communicate with employees, school staff and administration.
- Ability to read and comprehend basic operating instructions, chemical labeling information and safety guidelines.
- Competent use of basic mathematical skills is required for chemical use.
- Basic knowledge required to perform tasks on a computer or other technical devices.
Physical and Mental Efforts:
- This position requires a high level of physical and mental endurance.
- Long periods of walking, standing; ability to reach, bend, stoop, crawl, kneel or climb.
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to hear and listen to detailed information through oral communication.
- Ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
