The Director of Key Client Program will support the Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer (“CMBDO”) and firm leadership to build, scale, and lead the firm’s Key Client Program to accelerate growth across the firm’s most strategic client relationships. This role is accountable for driving measurable revenue expansion, strengthening multi-practice penetration, and institutionalizing best-in-class key account leadership.
The role oversees the firm’s most important clients and leads a team of Business Development Managers who support these key accounts. Success in this role depends on strong commercial leadership, the ability to operationalize strategy, and demonstrated commitment to coaching and mentoring BD Managers to elevate account management capabilities across the firm.
Responsibilities
Build & Scale the Key Client Program:
- Design, launch, and continuously evolve a growth-focused Key Client Program that supports the firm’s strategic priorities and revenue goals.
- Establish clear governance, account selection criteria, planning disciplines, and performance metrics that drive accountability and results.
- Create scalable, repeatable approaches to key account leadership that can be consistently executed across the firm.
Lead, Coach & Develop the BD Team:
- Lead, manage, and inspire a team of BD Managers dedicated to supporting key client accounts.
- Serve as a player-coach, actively mentoring BD Managers on advanced account leadership, opportunity development, partner engagement, and execution excellence.
- Set ambitious performance expectations and provide hands-on coaching to ensure BD Managers operate as strategic advisors to partners and client teams.
- Build a high-performing, growth-oriented team culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and impact.
Drive Key Client Growth & Expansion:
- Oversee strategic planning and execution for a portfolio of key client accounts, in close partnership with relationship partners and BD Managers.
- Ensure account plans are aligned to firm-wide strategy, forward-looking, commercially focused, and aligned to client business priorities and firm growth objectives.
- Identify and advance cross-practice, cross-office, and cross-border opportunities to expand share of wallet and deepen relationships.
- Proactively address execution gaps, stalled accounts, or underperforming relationships.
Partner & Leadership Engagement:
- Be a role model and change agent to enable client teams to build a mindset focused on building deep client insights, to act as creators of client value and support clients’ commercial success as opposed to cross selling services
- Act as a trusted commercial advisor to relationship partners, helping them think strategically about client growth, positioning, and team structure.
- Collaborate with firm leadership and practice leaders to align key client strategies with broader firm growth initiatives.
- Drive alignment and accountability across partners, practices, and BD resources in support of key client goals.
Client Insight & Value Creation:
- Champion a data- and insight-driven approach to key client management, leveraging client intelligence, market trends, and feedback.
- Guide client listening efforts and ensure insights translate into differentiated client strategies and service delivery improvements.
- Support the development of tailored value propositions, strategic initiatives, and thought leadership for key clients.
Measurement, Accountability & Continuous Improvement:
- Establish and oversee robust reporting and dashboards to track revenue growth, pipeline development, engagement, and account performance.
- Hold BD Managers and account teams accountable for disciplined execution and measurable outcomes.
- Regularly assess program effectiveness and refine approaches to maximize growth and client impact.
- Clearly communicate progress, results, and recommendations to firm leadership.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in strategic account management, key client programs, or business development within a law firm or professional services organization.
- Proven success in driving revenue growth and client expansion across complex, multi-stakeholder relationships.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing BD or account management teams, with a strong coaching mindset.
- Deep understanding of law firm economics, partner dynamics, and client decision-making.
- Strong executive presence and the ability to influence senior partners and firm leadership.
- Highly strategic, commercially minded, and execution oriented. Demonstrating skills in culture and mindset change/leadership where a shift from sales to mutual value creation was delivered
This position will require physical presence in Proskauer’s offices on a regular basis (at least 3x per week, or more, if it becomes the policy of the Firm). The anticipated compensation range for this position is $275,000 - $375,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a number of factors including but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
