SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for conducting various research and product development activities to support department objectives. This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Main Strategic Responsibilities
- Support the activities in the Technology department at the direction of R&D management
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Order and prepare materials and equipment
- Prepare test specimens and samples for testing
- Operate and maintain machinery and equipment
- Inspect, conduct tests, measure and record data, including fire testing and post-test measurements
- Maintain calibration status of equipment
- Assist R&D staff as required
- Design and build test apparatuses
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Comply with department and corporate health and safety practices
- Perform other duties, as assigned
- Periodic travel may be required, but is not common

SCOPE OF POSITION:
- Responsible for supporting the technical activities in the R&D department
- Responsibilities occur in the Company R&D facility in Stanhope, NJ
- The responsibilities of Research Technician and Sr. Research Technician are similar, but a Sr. Research Technician will have a documented record of success in project work that is directly applicable to the Company (paints and coatings).
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 2 years of experience in technical environment – paint or coatings industry preferred.
KNOWLEDGE:
High school diploma with some STEM emphasis desired. Associate degree in Science or Technology preferred. Directly applicable work experience or 4-year degree is highly valued and required for Sr. Research Technician.
SKILLS:
- Must work safely and support safe laboratory operations as the highest priority
- Must be willing to take direction as well as provide input to colleagues
- Must be able to read and understand technical procedures
- Must be organized
- Must communicate effectively in verbal and written form
- Must be self-motivated and responsible for assigned work as well as assisting colleagues
- Must be willing to work atypical hours and/or overtime, on occasion
- Must be able to successfully conduct basic mathematical analysis.
The base salary anticipated is $30.00 per hour for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, actual compensation may vary and will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to, the applicant’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other job-related factors. An employee may also be eligible for annual discretionary incentive compensation based on company and personal performance.
