    Function / Position Summary

    To provide assistance in the implementation of School Nutrition Program guidelines and requirements in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations. Additionally, adhere to School District U-46 and Food & Nutrition Services mission, vision, and values. 

    Job Duties / Responsibilities

    • Manage and supervise the school food service program in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements.
    • Responsible for managing staff schedules, daily work assignments, training, daily supervision, and evaluation of assigned food service staff according to established procedures as it relates to the operational needs of the location.
    • Adhere to policy on USDA professional standards and maintain accurate training records for assigned staff, ensuring full compliance.
    • Assist Registered Dietician in planning and evaluating menus for all meal periods and School Nutrition programs.
    • Manage daily food production incorporating an established menu plan, product inventory, and proper utilization of leftovers. Adhere to required documentation.
    • Responsible for placing all food/supply orders and adhering to department receiving and supply storage procedures.
    • Maintain a required system of accountability, performing record keeping processes as assigned, including monthly inventory and financial reports.
    • Promote student and staff satisfaction by merchandising/marketing meals in an attractive manner.
    • Facilitate marketing & promotional events such as Youth Advisory Council, National School Breakfast and/or Lunch week to increase meal participation.
    • Maintain current knowledge of all Federal, State, and Local requirements as it pertains to the Dietary Guidelines for School Nutrition Programs.
    • Coordinate efforts with Food Safety Coordinator on all HACCP policies and procedures, ensuring that your school is in 100% compliance with policies/procedures.
    • Support Food & Nutrition Services Administrators on all SEIU matters, including performance evaluations, grievances, training, interviewing, and adhering to policies set forth in the department's employee handbook and SEIU contract.
    • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with building administrators.
    • Establish and maintain expectations for direct reports and provide documented leadership and coaching adhering to Union and District guidelines.
    • Execute daily pre-meal meetings with all staff regarding the daily menu, building and department information, and safety.
    • Collaborate with the Registered Dietician on menu offerings and samples.
    • Maintain confidentiality on all sensitive matters.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED required.
    • Must possess a valid Certified Professional Food Manager Certification, previously known as a sanitation certificate. Certificate shall be obtained by the start of the second school term of employment.
    • Current Illinois Driver's License
    • Earn and/or maintain School Nutrition Association certification level 1 or higher within the first year of employment.

    Experience / Knowledge

    • Minimum of one-year experience in supervisor level position within the Food Service Industry.
    • Proficient in Google and other software in common usage.
    • Capability to maintain complex records and express ideas and directives effectively, verbally and written.
    • Strong ability to provide a high level of customer service to students, staff, parents, and team members.
    • Knowledge of school nutrition, food storage methods, inventory methods, department policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • Ability to plan and organize work to maintain effective working relations as necessitated by work assignments.
    • Ability to set goals and establish process plans for completion.
    • Detailed experience with FOH/BOH Point of Sale systems.
    • Ability to demonstrate working knowledge in culinary math, food costing, product evaluation, food waste metrics, and yields.

    Environmental Conditions

    • Indoors in a busy office environment with exposure to noise and communication.
    • May be required to leave main work site to attend meetings.
    • Public contact requires appropriate business-like apparel.
    • Field-based position: reliable transportation and working in schools is required. 

    Physical Demands

    • Ability to work on a computer for 50% of scheduled shift.
    • Ability to assist in lifting up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to work in a very fast-paced and stressful environment with unscheduled interruptions.
    • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
    • Ability to work in hot and cold conditions.

    Terms of Employment

    • This is a ten (10) month (194-day count calendar) full-time position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
    • Must complete all Food Service and District-mandated GCN tutorials, monthly safety training, and department-sponsored training per USDA requirements by their due dates.
    • Attend all meetings and trainings as required.

    Additional Information 

    • 195 calendar days, 8 hours per day.
    • The full salary range for this position is $33,768.00 - $50,653.00. It is our typical practice to hire in between the minimum and the midpoint ($42,202.00).
