What you will do
Design Development During the Proposal Phase :
• Thoroughly review all documents provided by the client during the proposal phase related to the discipline.
• Verify the scope of services of the consultant responsible for the discipline’s design (the “Consultant”) and identify any ambiguities or gaps in the required services.
• From the outset, establish the design strategy and guidelines for the discipline in collaboration with the Consultant.
• Participate in discussions regarding the procurement strategy defined by the construction team for executing the discipline-related work.
• Develop, in collaboration with the Consultant and the discipline-related subcontractor (the “Specialized Subcontractor”), if selected, effective concepts and alternative solutions that comply with client requirements.
• During the design development process, optimize the design within the established objectives to ensure constructability, identify discrepancies between design and construction, and assist in resolving them.
• Attend design meetings as needed with the project’s design team.
• Lead discipline-specific meetings with the Consultant and the Specialized Subcontractor.
• Collaborate with the Design Manager assigned to the project and keep them informed of developments with the Consultant.
• Review and comment on the compliance matrix for the discipline.
• Ensure communication and information exchange between the Consultant and the construction team, particularly with the Specialized Subcontractor involved in the discipline.
• Actively participate in the estimating process to develop the most efficient solutions.
• Assist the estimating team in preparing the project budget by clarifying design intent and facilitating the selection of alternative components when necessary.
• If required, participate in design sessions with the client and clarify technical questions, including through Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Develop and implement design review procedures to ensure quality and compliance with client requirements and applicable standards.
• Participate in risk identification and mitigation measures related to the discipline.
• Review and validate the compliance of drawings and technical documents prior to their official release.
Project Implementation :
• Once the contract is signed, maintain design-related responsibilities and collaborate with the design team until the design is completed, ensuring a timely transition with the design and/or construction team.
• Participate in negotiations with the specialized subcontractor regarding their contract and pricing.
• Carry out any tasks agreed upon with the Project Director related to construction and commissioning, including factory and site testing.
