TITLE: Classroom Teacher � Family & Consumer Science (FCS) � FCCLA Advisor
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
SUPERVISES (if applicable): N/A
JOB DEFINITION OR GOAL:
Providing students with a comprehensive education in Family and Consumer Sciences that prepares them for responsible adulthood, career readiness, post-secondary education, and lifelong well-being. The primary goal of this position is to equip students with practical life skills, leadership development, financial literacy, nutrition and wellness knowledge, child development understanding, culinary competencies, and career exploration aligned with Montana CTE standards. Additionally, this position serves as the advisor to the local chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), promoting student leadership, service learning, career development, and community engagement consistent with FCCLA national and Montana state guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities
1. Curriculum Development & Instruction
• Design and implement lesson plans aligned with Montana Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards in Family and Consumer Sciences.
• Deliver instruction in areas such as:
o Nutrition and Culinary Arts
o Personal Finance and Consumer Economics
o Human Development and Family Studies
o Child Development and Parenting
o Interior Design and Housing
o Career Exploration and Workforce Readiness
• Incorporate hands-on learning experiences including food labs, project-based learning, simulations, and service learning.
• Integrate employability skills including communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and time management.
• Utilize industry-relevant technology and equipment in instructional delivery.
2. FCCLA Chapter Leadership & Student Organization Advisement
• Serve as advisor to the school's FCCLA chapter.
• Guide students in leadership development, competitive events, and service projects.
• Coordinate participation in district, state, and national FCCLA conferences and competitions.
• Facilitate student-led meetings and officer development.
• Promote community service initiatives aligned with district strategic goals.
• Maintain compliance with state and national FCCLA policies and reporting requirements.
3. Safety & Classroom/Lab Management
• Establish and enforce food safety, sanitation, and classroom safety protocols consistent with OSHA and district policy.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe culinary lab and instructional environment.
• Conduct regular equipment inspections and coordinate maintenance as needed.
• Ensure proper storage and inventory of food supplies, kitchen tools, and classroom materials.
4. Student Assessment & Support
• Evaluate student progress through performance-based assessments, projects, demonstrations, and written evaluations.
• Provide differentiated instruction to support diverse learners.
• Offer guidance related to career pathways in culinary arts, hospitality, education, human services, nutrition, and related fields.
• Support students in developing leadership and employability skills.
5. Program Development & Community Engagement
• Collaborate with colleagues to integrate FCS concepts across disciplines.
• Develop partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, and post secondary institutions.
• Coordinate guest speakers, internships, and career exploration experiences.
• Showcase student work at school and community events.
• Support district initiatives related to wellness, food security, and life skills education when appropriate.
6. Professional Responsibilities
• Complies with Board policies, rules, regulations and directives.
• Recommends promotion and/or placement of students in appropriate classroom situations for the ensuing year.
• Participates in faculty meetings, professional learning communities, educational conferences, professional training seminars and workshops.
• Supervises classroom aides and volunteers.
• May perform related duties such as sponsoring additional student organizations or activities when appropriate.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Be appropriately licensed and endorsed in Family and Consumer Sciences in accordance with Montana state statutes and Board of Public Education rules, or be considered appropriately assigned if enrolled in an internship or alternative licensure pathway.
2. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
3. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, staff, and the community.
4. Ability to handle stressful situations.
5. Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
6. Experience with Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) preferred.
