The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates correctional facilities
that house Kentucky's adult inmate population.



The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane
environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes;
and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.
This position is located at the new medical facility in Lexington, Kentucky.



The Mechanical Maintenance and Operations Technician II acts as a lead worker in the maintenance and operation
of associated systems and equipment at the institution.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Inspects assigned area projecting maintenance needs in consultation with the appropriate department heads.
  • Performs all preventative maintenance for their assigned work area and coordinates work with other skilled
    trade areas (plumbers, electricians, etc.).
  • Inspects equipment and responsible for determining equipment needs and order parts as needed.
  • Supervises the support teams that perform work within assigned area.
  • Prepares reports and ensures documentation as needed.






Minimum Requirements



EDUCATION:
High school graduate.




EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Four years of experience in the maintenance or repair of HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation, or electrical systems.




Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.




Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Experience in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.




SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
Must be 18 years of age.





Working Conditions


May be required to take care of emergency repairs twenty-four hours a day.




Probationary Period


This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
