Work Schedule:
8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday.
8 a.m. to 12:00Pm on Friday. However, additional hours may be required to complete duties.
POSITION SUMMARY
The CMA works as part of the care team and assists the Physicians and Advanced Nurse Practitioners in the provision of primary health care. The CMA is involved in continuous Quality Improvement practices and measures as set by Mainline Health Systems, Inc. and in which the practice focus is based on a Patient Centered Medical Home model of care.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Patient Relations
- Receives patients.
- Prepares and maintains medical records.
- Performs basic secretarial skills and competent with computer.
- Help train new staff.
- Handles telephone encounters, written correspondence, and voice messages per policy.
- Serves as liaison between providers and other individuals.
- Prepares patients for procedures and assists providers with examinations and treatments.
- Infection Control (Ex. Change sharp containers, cleaning of rooms and equipment per policy and maintain nail length less than 1/8 inch).
- Collecting and labeling specimen.
- Address messages and medication refills to the providers.
- Follow standing orders to initiate routine and preventative screenings.
- Participate in monthly clinical staff meeting and quality improvement practices.
- Participate in daily team huddles and communicates concerns or necessary information to the care team.
- Completion of continual job training processes set forth by MHSI.
- Send abnormal/normal lab and diagnostic letters.
- Answers and routes calls for physicians from patients and family members, pharmacies
- Document patient information in EMR based on Patient Care: General Procedure’s guidelines.
- Attends outreach activities
- Prepare and administer solutions and medications upon order of physicians.
- Complete referral orders
- Communicate with supervisor if any barriers prevent the completion of job duties.
- Complete Peer Review (after 6 months of employment)
- Respond to constructive criticism in an effort to become more proficient with job duties.
- Identify strengths and weaknesses in own work to improve work performance and remains aware of goals set annually and works toward accomplishing those goals.
- Medication Quiz and Medical Proficiency
- Maintain up to date TB skin test, CPR, and certification/licensure.
- Correctly perform job related skills as identified during onboarding, orientation, and trainings; to include, but not limited to: vital signs, medication administration, documentation, collection of laboratory specimens.
- Participate in management of VFC inventory through appropriate administration and documentation of injections, reconciliations, ordering, and returns.
- Maintain inventory of medication and supplies to ensure timely removal/disposal of expired products.
- Any other duties assigned.
- Performance Improvement Activities
- Notifies supervisor of unusual occurrences and adheres to policy regarding incident forms and /or patient complaints.
- Ensures compliance with HIPAA, OSHA & other regulatory agencies.
- Is involved in continuous Quality Improvement standards.
- Safety/Infection Control Activities
- Frequent exposure to noise, distractions, and interruptions.
- May be exposed to hostile, verbally abusive, and emotional clients/employees.
- Subject to conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, and gases.
- Corporate Compliance
- Employee is encouraged to support and cooperate with the Mainline Health Systems, Inc. Corporate Compliance policy.
- Employee is required to report any mismanagement to the Corporate Compliance officer.
- Employee is encouraged by Senior Management to follow the MHSI Corporate Compliance program.
Reporting Relationships
The CMA reports to and is directly supervised by the Clinic Manager who reports to the Chief Operating Officer
Evaluation
The evaluation of work performance will be on going and will be carried out by the Clinic Manager. The evaluation will include specific duties and responsibilities of the position, plus employee attitudes, general working behavior and willingness to do extra work or assistance. Formal evaluation will be done annually but may be initiated at other times by the Clinic Manager who may consult Chief Operating Officer.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Current Certified Medical Assistant certificate in the State of Arkansas with completion of continuing education credits as required for Medical Assistant certification.
- Must have current BLS FOR Healthcare Providers.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to read and write English.
- Must have the ability to relate with warmth and effectiveness to the patients and to the providers of the Community Health Center.
Work Environment:
- An office environment in a controlled atmosphere building. This is an OSHA high–risk position.
