Description

 Incarnate Word High School, an all-girls Catholic high school sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, seeks a Science teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The position entails a full-time teaching schedule. Candidates must have current licensure. Catholic candidates preferred. The school seeks to maintain a fully and authentically Catholic environment.  


REPORTS TO:

This position reports to the Principal of Incarnate Word High School (IWHS). 


RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Prepare curriculum documents to include standards, scope and sequences, syllabi, and lesson plans.
  • Use appropriate and varied instructional strategies, activities, and materials to promote student success and achievement.
  • Consistently monitor student achievement through appropriate and varied formative and summative assessments.
  • Update the school's electronic gradebook site Blackbaud with student grades at least once per week.
  • Keep class pages in Google Classroom current.
  • Post lesson plans weekly.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with students, their parents, and administration.
  • Attend faculty meetings, events, and professional development.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members for professional, instructional, and supervisory duties.
  • Assume a variety of roles in support of student activities outside of class, both during the school day and after normal school hours.
  • Attend all faculty retreats, and class retreats as assigned.
  • Attend all faith-centered activities to include school liturgies and prayer services.
  • Have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and co-workers.
  • Willingness to assume other extra-curricular duties as needed.
  • May include AP Courses.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have knowledge of both curriculum and instruction, and the ability to engage and instruct students in the content area.
  • Have the ability to manage a classroom along with student behavior.
  • Attendance at AP Summer Institute(s) within the past 3 years.
  • Promptly address student needs through interventions, including modifying instructional approaches.
  • Have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and co-workers.
  • Be a lifelong learner of his/her practice, and have an openness to self-reflect, receive, and implement feedback on improving their teaching skills.
  • Understanding of the Mission of Incarnate Word High School.
  • Successful completion of VIRTUS and background check.
Requirements

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • State and federal background clearance to work with students.
  • Successful completion of Virtus background check and training as required by the Archdiocese of
  • San Antonio.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally when writing and speaking.
  • Demonstrate an organizational and leadership skillset.
  • Be proficient with computer-based systems including, but not limited to: G-suite, Microsoft Office,
  • and the school Student Information System.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Science (or relevant degree area).
  • A valid Texas Teacher’s Certificate, or 12 credit hours in education courses.
  • Technology Proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, multimedia presentations, and internet use for educational purposes.)
