The City of Lenexa Parks & Recreation Department is accepting applications for a part-time Manager on Duty (MOD) at the Lenexa Recreation Center. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy supporting staff, delivering excellent customer service, and helping ensure smooth daily facility operations in a fast-paced recreation environment.

Position Summary:

The Manager on Duty (MOD) serves as the on-site leader during assigned shifts and supports the overall operation of the Recreation Center. This role oversees all areas of the facility and focuses on customer service, staff support, safety oversight, and operational leadership to help maintain a welcoming, well-organized, and efficient recreation environment.

Schedule:

This is a part-time position. Work occurs primarily on weekends with required availability during the following times:

  • Friday: 5:00 PM � 9:00 PM
  • Saturday: 1:00 PM � 6:00 PM
  • Sunday: 10:00 AM � 6:00 PM

In addition to weekend shifts, this role requires weekly daytime availability Monday through Friday to support recreation center operational tasks. Occasional holiday shifts may be required based on facility needs. Hours will vary from 10-20 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the on-site point of contact during assigned shifts, supporting staff, members, and guests.
  • Oversee daily operations of all Recreation Center departments, including Welcome Desk, fitness floor, group fitness classes, aquatics, Kid Zone, birthday parties, and general facility use.
  • Provide high-quality customer service by answering questions, resolving concerns, and ensuring a welcoming and professional environment.
  • Utilize recreation management software (RecTrac) to complete member check-ins, account inquiries, upgrades, cancellations, and point-of-sale transactions.
  • Conduct facility walkthroughs to ensure safety, cleanliness, and operational readiness.
  • Monitor and respond to safety concerns and incidents, demonstrating knowledge of emergency procedures and contacting EMS when necessary.
  • Enforce Recreation Center rules, policies, and procedures consistently.
  • Provide front-line coverage in program areas as needed during high-traffic periods or staffing shortages.
  • Support staff onboarding and training, including assisting with orientation and communicating role expectations.
  • Communicate incidents, operational updates, and facility needs clearly to the Recreation Center Manager and supervisors.
  • Complete weekly operational and administrative tasks to support overall facility operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within 120 days of employment

Starting rate of pay is $18.75 per hour.

Environmental and Physical Factors: Work is performed indoors in a busy Recreation Center environment. This position requires medium physical work, including lifting and moving recreation-related supplies and materials. Long periods of standing and walking are required, and extended shifts may occur during special events.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug screen. A background check is required for applicants aged 18 and older.
