IREN is seeking a Director of Operations to lead the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a mission-critical cloud computing center and associated infrastructure.
The Director of Operations partners closely with Integrated Operations Centre (IOC), Construction, Technology and Engineering functions to ensure seamless design-to-operate integration and lead the operational organization to meet high standards/benchmarks and SLA requirements for reliability, availability and efficiency across the portfolio of data center operations

Job requirements
- 12+ years of experience in mission-critical operations, data centers, , with at least 5+ years in senior leadership roles.
- Proven track record of managing large scale 24/7 DC operations with high availability and uptime requirements.
- Strong understanding of DC critical systems, including MV/HV electrical distribution, backup power systems (UPS/generators), cooling systems, and control systems.
- Experience developing and implementing SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, and operational governance frameworks.
- Strong experience with maintenance strategies, including preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance.
- Demonstrated capability in incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Experience managing vendors, service providers, and operational budgets.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide executive-level reporting and drive cross-functional alignment.
- Ability to travel on-site as required .
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Operations, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Experienced leadership of operating hyperscale or colocation data centers
- Familiarity with ISO standards, Uptime Institute Tier standards, and other mission-critical frameworks.
- Experience scaling data center operations across multiple sites or campuses.
- Relevant Data center operational and technology Certifications.
- Strong operational leadership with a focus on uptime, reliability, and safety.
- Structured, process-driven mindset with attention to detail and documentation discipline.
- Calm, decisive leadership under pressure in high-stakes environments.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a data-driven approach.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across engineering, construction, and corporate functions.
- Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on scalability and standardization.
Job responsibilities
- Operational Leadership & Uptime. Own availability, reliability, and performance across all data center sites. Establish and maintain high-availability standards (e.g., Tier certifications, SLA targets). Lead incident management, escalation protocols, and root cause analysis (RCA).
- Multi-Site Management & Standardization. Ensure consistent operating procedures, KPIs, and governance across all facilities. Align regional/site operations with global standards while managing local constraints. Implement centralized reporting and performance benchmarking.
- Infrastructure & Capacity Planning. Oversee capacity planning for power, cooling, space, and network infrastructure. Partner with engineering and construction teams on expansions, retrofits, GPU deployments and new builds. Ensure seamless scaling without disruption to live operations.
- Critical Systems Oversight. Ensure optimal performance of power systems (UPS, generators), cooling systems (HVAC/liquid), and IT infrastructure. Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Drive lifecycle management of assets and equipment.
- Security & Compliance. Maintain physical security and operational compliance across all sites. Ensure adherence to industry standards (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, Tier standards). Lead audit readiness, risk management, and regulatory compliance efforts.
- Vendor & Partner Management. Manage third-party vendors, contractors, and service providers. Negotiate and enforce SLAs, KPIs, and contractual obligations. Ensure quality, safety, and performance standards are met.
- Financial Management & Optimization. Develop and manage operating budgets across multiple sites. Optimize cost structures, including energy consumption and staffing models. Drive efficiency improvements (e.g., PUE reduction, sustainability initiatives).
- Team Leadership & Development. Lead and develop high-performing, geographically distributed teams. Oversee hiring, training, and succession planning. Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous learning.
- Incident & Crisis Management. Act as senior escalation point for major incidents and GPU/Network outages. Coordinate site response, communication and support in compliance Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) directives. Support structured post-incident reviews and corrective actions incident close out.
- Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE). Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and best practices. Promote a zero-incident safety culture across all facilities. Lead sustainability and environmental impact initiatives.
- Strategic Planning & Growth. Contribute to long-term infrastructure and operational strategy. Support site selection, expansion planning, and technology adoption. Align operations with business objectives and growth forecasts.

Compensation
- The expected base salary for this role starts at $240,000 USD.
- Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and market data for the region.
- Total Compensation package may be inclusive of annual incentive bonus, equity (long-term incentive), project allowances
- Relocation or Living-out-allowance / per diem (as appliable and based on successful candidate circumstances)
