    High School World History Teacher

    Location: UME Preparatory Academy
    Reports To: Campus Principal

    Position Summary

    The High School World History Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, standards-based instruction aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for World History Studies. This role focuses on developing students' understanding of global historical events, cultures, and systems while promoting critical thinking, analysis, and college and career readiness.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Plan and deliver engaging daily instruction aligned to TEKS for World History Studies
    • Develop lesson plans that incorporate historical analysis, research, and primary/secondary source evaluation
    • Foster critical thinking skills through discussions of global events, civilizations, and historical trends
    • Prepare students for success on state assessments and postsecondary readiness
    • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners
    • Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data
    • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance in Skyward
    • Establish and maintain a structured, positive classroom environment
    • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
    • Participate in professional development, PLCs, and campus initiatives
    • Support the mission and goals of UME Preparatory Academy

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
    • Valid Texas Teaching Certification in Social Studies (Grades 7�12) or History (Grades 7�12) in compliance with Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements
    • Demonstrated knowledge of TEKS for World History Studies
    • Ability to align curriculum, instruction, and assessments to TEKS standards

    Preferred

    • Experience teaching high school World History
    • Experience with STAAR/EOC preparation strategies
    • Familiarity with data-driven instruction and differentiated learning
    • Experience incorporating technology into instruction

    Skills and Competencies

    • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
    • Ability to engage students in complex historical concepts
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to analyze data and adjust instruction accordingly
    • Proficiency in instructional technology and student information systems

    Working Conditions

    • Classroom environment with extended periods of standing, speaking, and facilitating instruction
    • Ability to manage diverse student needs and learning styles

    Compensation

    Salary is based on experience and aligned with the UME Preparatory Academy pay scale.
