| Position Summary | The Professional Intern/Technical role within the COSMIAC organization is fundamental to supporting engineering efforts for spaceflight missions procured through grants and contracts. This position entails overseeing the alignment of hardware and payload designs with scientific requirements and contributing engineering expertise to various research projects under the guidance of a principal investigator. Responsibilities encompass collecting, analyzing, and disseminating space-based data, as well as conducting applied research and executing analytical studies. The role may also involve providing functional leadership and guidance to team members. Moreover, the successful candidate will conduct functional analysis of electrical designs and employ statistical analysis techniques to assess outcomes. Proficiency in software tools is essential for manipulating complex datasets and generating reports. Designing, constructing, and testing specialized equipment and instrumentation pertinent to national defense, space exploration, or environmental research forms an integral part of the role. Collaboration with procurement and human resources teams ensures resource availability for job success. The Professional Intern/Technical role requires both independent work and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams, coupled with effective prioritization to meet project deadlines. Flexibility to travel to various locations, on and off-site, is essential. This position also involves undertaking a professional internship aimed at providing recent college graduates in applied engineering or other advanced technical fields with on-the-job training and experience. Interns engage in diverse work assignments, projects, and activities of varying technical complexity, structured to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for performing at a professional, technical level. Training and mentorship are provided for planning and executing activities and assignments. Typically, this is a fixed-term position lasting up to 24 months.
