Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our Finance Team, in this role you will lead the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, directs and coordinates all accounting operational functions; including the oversight of revenue, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, tax, membership, cost accounting, prepaids, operating expenses, capital expenses, accruals, and general accounting
  • Assesses accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Oversee the Company’s bi-annual standard cost roll process to accurately reflect manufacturing activities BOMs, routings, labor and overhead absorption, product, material and supply costs
  • Ensure accurate inventory valuation including WIP, finished goods, reserves, and obsolescence
  • Establishes, monitors and enforces accounting policies and procedures
  • Establishes, monitors and enforces internal controls which provides for the safe-guarding of the Company’s assets and assures the accurate and timely reporting of the Company’s financial results and position
  • Ensures the successful completion of the company’s regulatory filings, including tax planning and compliance with local, state, and federal jurisdictions
  • Manages the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates timely and accurate monthly periodic close in accordance with GAAP
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates the year-end close process with external auditors
  • Prepares financial statements, including balance sheet and cash flow statements
  • Develops and monitors business performance metrics that provide cost savings tracking, budget adherence, visibility to margins and overall profitability
  • Planning, budgeting and authorizing expenditures as needed
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed
  • Hires, trains and retains competent accounting staff; and designs an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives
  • Provide leadership and development opportunities for the Finance department employees
  • Manages external relationships with banks, lessors, insurance, finance department vendors and consultant facilitating effective and efficient ‘back-office’ support of day-to-day transactions
  • Provides management with information vital to the decision-making process
  • Assists the CFO with establishing and implementing short- and long-range departmental goals and objectives
  • Strives to reduce waste, recycle products whenever possible, and re-use resources when practical
  • Works safely at all times, follows safety rules and policies and participates in scheduled training
  • Reports injuries and near misses promptly and in required detailed format; proposes corrective action
  • Other duties as may be assigned

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Possess the ability to coach and mentor to optimize capabilities and ensure financial transactions are reported accurately and timely.

This position oversees the Finance department’s functional teams for revenue, expenses, inventory cost, tax and equity and has an extended reporting umbrella of 14 to 20 employees.

Reinforces a safety culture: leads by example, reminds employees to work safely, praises good behavior and safe practices, encourages suggestions, communicates consequences for unsafe acts, holds employees accountable, disciplines employees when warranted.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or finance or related field from four-year college or university; and 8-10 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree, CPA and CMA is preferred.

Must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

Experience with Tier 2 or higher ERP software and strong knowledge of data management.  Familiarity of database software, and other business software such as Enterprise Content Management, Infor, Oracle, and PowerBI.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret such items as general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or simple governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, or procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present financial information.

 

QUANTITATIVE SKILLS

Must be able to calculate figures and amounts for all bookkeeping and budgets. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to use a computer to create spreadsheets, charts and reports and analyze and apply information to make practical, day-to-day business decisions.
