Position Summary:

 

The Master HVAC/R Technician provides expert-level technical support, diagnostics, and guidance for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems across Texas locations. This role ensures system reliability, energy efficiency, regulatory compliance, and high-quality repairs by internal technicians and external contractors. The position serves as a technical escalation point and subject matter expert for HVAC/R systems.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Review incoming HVAC/R-related work orders and perform advanced remote diagnostics, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
  • Prioritize internal WO assignment for high-frequency / low complexity tasks.
  • Develop internal PM schedule and scope of work.
  • Serve as the technical escalation resource for complex HVAC and commercial refrigeration issues that exceed field technician capability.
  • Provides technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to HVAC/R technicians and maintenance staff.

Support the Facilities Maintenance Manager with:

  • Development of internal HVAC/R trade capabilities.
  • CAPEX project planning and execution for system replacements and upgrades.
  • Implementation and optimization of preventive and reactive maintenance programs.
  • Provide technical training, coaching, and field-level guidance to maintenance technicians to improve repair quality and first-time fix rates.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external contractors to resolve recurring system failures and chronic equipment issues.
  • Review contractor repairs, scopes of work, and recommendations to ensure technical accuracy, cost effectiveness, and long-term reliability.
  • Maintain relevant skillset on commercial HVAC/R technologies, controls, refrigerants, regulations, and energy efficiency advancements.
  • Support special projects, system upgrades, and standardization initiatives to improve safety, performance, uptime, and customer experience.
  • Ensure all work complies with OSHA, EPA, safety standards, and company policies.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in commercial HVAC/R service supporting convenience retail environment.
  • Expert-level technical aptitude in commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • EPA Universal Certification (required).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.

 

Master-level expertise in:

  • Rooftop units (RTUs).
  • Split systems and heat pumps.
  • Commercial refrigeration (reach-ins, walk-ins, ice machines preferred).
  • HVAC controls and basic BAS concepts.
  • Demonstrated experience providing remote diagnostic and technical support to technicians and contractors.

Physical Requirements:

  • Proven ability to diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information to technicians, contractors, and leadership.
  • Capable of working independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Comfortable supporting a fast-paced, multi-site retail environment.
  • Travel required between supported stores, and supply houses.
