Job Description

School Nurse - Substitute (PRN)

Time - 7:45am-3:45pm

Rate - $300/day (full school day)

Position Summary:
The School Nurse – Sub provides compassionate, professional healthcare and first aid to students and staff. This role manages the Health Services Office, responds to emergencies, supports students with chronic conditions, and ensures compliance with state health regulations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as first responder to campus medical emergencies.

  • Provide care for student and staff illness/injury.

  • Administer daily, PRN, and emergency medications per physician orders and state law.

  • Develop and manage Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and emergency care plans (e.g., diabetes, asthma, seizures, allergies).

  • Train and delegate medication administration to authorized school personnel.

  • Maintain accurate health records in FACTS (RenWeb) and required state documentation (GA Forms 3231 & 2208).

  • Monitor immunization compliance and report communicable diseases as required.

  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding health concerns.

  • Maintain AEDs, emergency supplies, and first aid kits (including field trips).

  • Provide staff training (CPR/AED, First Aid, emergency medication use).

  • Participate in crisis management planning and health education initiatives.



Qualifications

  • Active Georgia Registered Nurse (RN) license.

  • Current CPR/AED certification.

  • Knowledge of pediatric and community health practices.

  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency with computer systems and electronic health records.

  • Ability to remain calm, organized, and collaborative in a fast-paced school setting.


Work Environment

Office-based with frequent campus mobility (indoors/outdoors), stair navigation, and rapid response to emergencies.
