Extracurricular Sponsor and/or Coach – Middle School & High School
Norris School District is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to serve as Extracurricular Sponsors and/or Coaches at both the middle school and high school levels. These positions play an important role in providing students with meaningful opportunities to grow through athletics, activities, leadership, and teamwork.
Position Highlights:
- Seasonal, stipend-based extracurricular positions
- After-school, evening, and some weekend commitments required

Responsibilities Include:
- Leading, supervising, and supporting students during practices, meetings, rehearsals, and/or competitions
- Teaching skills specific to the assigned activity and/or sport
- Promoting teamwork, responsibility, leadership, and positive character
- Ensuring student safety and appropriate supervision at all times
- Communicating clearly and professionally with students, parents, staff, and administration
- Assisting with scheduling, participation records, and equipment and/or materials
- Supporting the academic success and personal growth of students
- Representing the district and school positively at all times

A. Job Title: Coach
B. Department: Instruction
C. Education Level and Certification: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Must at all times
during employment possess all required certification and training.
D. Reports To: Activities Director or Designee
E. Required Job Tasks
1. Oversee and manage the assigned team.
2. Use good judgment to determine athlete participation during practices and games,
including squad level and playing time.
3. Positively promote the athletic program within the schools and the community,
4. Assist in the selection and evaluation of assistant coaches.
5. Coordinate with the Activities Director in planning and scheduling practices,
announcements, competitions, and the like.
6. Supervises locker rooms and playing areas during and following periods of team
participation.
7. Remains with students and supervises them when traveling to away events.
8. Oversees and tends to injured athletes.
9. Cares for and maintains equipment and annual inventories.
10. Works closely with custodians in control at facilities.
11. Serve as a role model to all students.
12. Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively
affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
13. Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the
District, including the education of students.
14. Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other
staff and administration.
15. Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
16. Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in
accordance with law and District rules.
17. Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of
Education (NDE Rule 27).
