Description
The Surgical Services Coordinator in the surgical services department is an important part of the staff. Their responsibilities include general clerical work, managing the telephone, managing provider schedules for surgery, coordinating surgical services for patients, scheduling meetings, orienting new employees to department business functions, assisting with supply management, communication with the pre-authorization department, assisting providers with clerical tasks, and assisting with other tasks/projects as requested by the director.
This is a full time, 40 hours a week, Monday- Friday position

Job Description:
- Manages and coordinates telephone communications with clinics, patients and other hospital departments.
· Maintains a high level of customer service skills, maintaining professional communication with all customers including patients, providers, and other departments.
· Maintains a proactive response in assisting patients, visitors, and staff requests for information and services.
· Promptly responds to any inquiries and conveys a professional, caring attitude and willingness to solve problems, answer questions and relay information. Use de-escalation techniques when needed.
· Maintain HIPAA, Idaho State and other regulatory compliance for patient safety, confidentiality and timely care and services.
· Maintain patient computer profile and other data updates for clinical reference and billing requirements.
· Maintain a clean, organized workstation. Keep supplies and equipment in working order. This includes computers, printers, and telephones. Troubleshoot basic functions of computers, printers, etc.
· Assemble and photocopy patient records as needed. Assure all records are identified. Deliver copies of records to HIM for them to release to the requesting parties.
· Work in collaboration with team members to manage surges in patient volume and variances in the workload.
· Check supply inventory and reorder as needed Materials Management using ENVI system or written form.
· Create new patient charts.
· Track patient visit counts and authorized dates of service.
· Communicate with Pre-Auth Department to coordinate with insurance companies for additional visits or expanded dates of service as needed.
· Manage provider surgery schedules.
· Manage daily statistics for outpatients and inpatients.
· Run monthly OR log and save to permanent file.
· Track monthly statistics for productivity and patient volumes.
· Call and schedule new patients as orders are received.
· Call patients the day before their evaluation to remind them of their appointment and arrival time.
· Provide the billing office with patients’ dates of discharge.

Summary
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· High School Diploma or equivalency.
· Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
· Excellent interpersonal skills including dealing with patients, families, co-workers, other departments and health care professionals
· Basic Math Skills
· Basic to intermediate knowledge in computer use, including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
· Excellent organizational skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Experience working in a healthcare environment
· Additional languages – Spanish Preferred
