The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights (KCHR) is the premier civil/human rights agency in the Commonwealth of
Kentucky. The mission of the Commission is to eradicate discrimination in the Commonwealth through enforcement
of the Kentucky Civil Rights Act. To do this, the agency receives, investigates, and litigates complaints of
discrimination.



KCHR looks for individuals who have a demonstrated passion for civil rights and years of experience working in
civil rights and justice-oriented positions, on behalf of Kentucky’s protected classes. We seek persons who
understand and are driven by the belief that all Kentuckians deserve to be treated equally, in relation to
housing, employment and public accommodations, no matter who they are.



This Position provides investigative and enforcement services to assure compliance with laws and regulations
administered by the Human Rights Commission in accordance with KRS 344. Under the guidance of a Human Rights
Enforcement Officer II, this position conducts preliminary investigations to evaluate allegations of
discrimination submitted to the Kentucky Human Rights Commission; and performs other duties as required.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conducts thorough, timely and impartial investigations of complaints.
  • Secures documents and evidence needed for the investigation. Compiles statistics through interviews and
    witnesses.
  • Prepares a proposed determination on each assigned case, using evidence from both parties, forming the
    nucleus for the recommendations on findings.
  • Consults with Legal Staff on conclusions to be drawn from evidence.
  • Prepares detailed and clearly written reports.





Minimum Requirements



EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.




EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
One year of experience involving the investigation, interpretation, or enforcement in human rights activities, OR one year of legal research, administrative, labor relations, or community organization work.




Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
Graduate study will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.




Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Additional experience in one of the above-mentioned fields will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Probationary Period


This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
