POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of warehouse management and inventory duties in accordance with county policy. Accountable for receiving, storing, and distributing materials, equipment, and supplies. Tracks inventory by performing physical counts and verifying information against warehousing systems. This position is located in the Ada County Operations department.  


DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

Plans and accomplishes the day-to-day work with a substantial degree of independence, referring work problems and questions of policy to supervisor for assistance.

Position Duties

  • Oversees warehouse operations, ensuring accurate accountability for all products and equipment received, delivered, or otherwise handled;
  • Receives, inspects, stores, and stocks a wide variety of goods and supplies;
  • Maintains inventory; Monitors the usage and stockpiling of supplies, equipment, files, replacement parts, and other stored materials;
  • Tracks back orders to ensure delivery, and communicates with finance personnel regarding late shipment, damaged product, or related matters that impact payment on warehouse items; 
  • Operates forklifts, lift trucks, pallet jacks, and other equipment related to warehouse operations; inspects, evaluates, and coordinates maintenance on warehouse equipment;
  • Coordinates with internal and external parties regarding delivery or pick-up of materials and supplies; Respond to customers' or shippers' questions and complaints regarding storage and distribution services;
  • Assists in maintenance of a comprehensive, computerized inventory and records management system; Ensures documentation in the system is being maintained accurately;
  • Loads and unloads deliveries; examines freight to determine loading sequences; monitors loading and unloading of materials to ensure compliance with safety, quality, or other standards and best practices;
  • Performs fixed asset and purchasing/usage tracking;
  • Keeps Department management apprised of the operation and maintenance of warehouse operations;
  • Assists in developing policy and procedure related to warehouse operations and county storage needs;
  • Evaluates security needs of received goods and supplies, and processes accordingly;
  • Maintains a safe working environment by monitoring safety procedures and equipment; Reports any safety or security concerns;
  • Monitors operations for compliance with regulations governing materials handling, storage, and distribution where applicable;
  • Performs minor service and repair on department equipment and warehouse facilities;
  • Research products and equipment to insure practicability, cost effectiveness, and supply availability, and makes recommendations to the administration;
  • Assists with and conducts safety training related to warehouse operations, equipment uses, and material handling, as needed; reinforces safe work practices and supports compliance with safety standards.


ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS 

  • May assist management to determine product, equipment, and service requirements;
  • Purchases supplies, materials, and equipment as requested;
  • Assists in maintaining documentation of purchases ensuring that all Federal, State, and County regulations are met;
  • Organizes and cleans departmental warehouse, supply areas, and storage units;
  • Attends department-sponsored workshops, seminars, and classes; 
  • Maintains a familiarity with equipment management; and
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • At least 3 years’ experience in warehouse operations, supply chain management, or related field;
  • Must have experience in operating typical warehouse equipment;
  • Knowledge of informal and formal purchasing methods and practices;
  • Knowledge of equipment and supplies used in a facility maintenance and operations environment;
  • Knowledge of computerized inventory control systems and fixed asset management; 
  • Knowledge of computers and other office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, and telephones;
  • Knowledge of safety requirements for warehouse operations; 
  • Knowledge of safety procedures when operating forklifts, lift trucks, and other types of transport;
  • Knowledge of data base entry and proofing data entry and documents;
  • Skill in the use of a personal computer, specifically Microsoft applications Excel & Word;
  • Ability to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and organizational guidelines and appropriations; 
  • Ability to understand the relationship between items, quantity, and prices; 
  • Ability to maintain good relationships with vendors and county staff; 
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to work as part of a team to accomplish division and department goals.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Idaho driver’s license and a good driving record in accordance with Ada County vehicle policy; 
  • Must be forklift certified or obtain County forklift certification within 6 months of employment;
  • This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work is performed primarily in a warehouse and office environment;
  • The employee in this class is subject to environmental conditions;
  • Requires ability to routinely lift 35 lbs. and up to 50 lbs.;
  • Requires ability to push and pull pallet in excess of 200 lbs.;
  • Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, to permit the employee to function in a warehouse and general office environment to accomplish tasks, including but not limited to repetitive bending, reaching, stooping and kneeling;
  • Requires a combination of sitting, standing, walking, and reaching below, at, and above shoulder level; and
  • Requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and twisting in the performance of regular duties.
