Position Summary

As one of the lead instructors of the Engineering Summer Academy, the Summer Camp Instructor oversees
students’ progress in day-to-day and long-term progress in a particular STEM subject,
ensuring that all students succeed and stay engaged.  Provides
instructional support to students and staff.  Prepares instructional
materials and purchase requisitions for the project.  Assists with
laboratory assignments and demonstrations as needed.  Leads and guides the
work of others.  Helps with the set-up and tear-down of hands-on
activities.

  • Lead
    group and/or individual instruction.
  • Prepares
    and/or distributes course materials, as appropriate to the course of
    instruction.
  • Designs and implements laboratory demonstrations and assignments.
  • Ensures
    in the safety of the students throughout the day.
  • May
    assist other instructors with laboratory assignments and demonstrations.
  • Helps
    prepare informational and classroom activity materials.
  • Assists
    in the ordering and utilization of supplies and inventories.
  • May
    guide student employees and volunteers as appropriate to the area of
    operation.
  • Ensures
    that students stay on task and provides support to students as needed.
  • Creates
    educational environment that is inclusive, supportive and engaging.

Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge
    of college-level academic environments and procedures.
  • High
    organization, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Experience
    of laboratory setting(s) at a university.
  • Prior
    instruction and/or assistance with summer research experiences in STEM
    fields.
