Inventory Management Specialist

Expected Salary Range: $60,000-$75,000

An Inventory Management Specialist operates as part of the logistics team overseeing and performing the daily operations of warehouse management, logistics, inventory management, and packing materials for a timely and safe delivery to internal and external customers. This role involves analyzing and managing inventory throughout the entire product lifecycle, from acquisition and distribution to delivery and, when necessary, discontinuation. The Inventory Management Specialist ensures seamless coordination across all supply chain functions, driving efficiencies in logistics, warehouse optimization, and packaging to support the company’s operational goals.

Duties and Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Perform efficient warehouse operations, logistics management, and package optimization within supply chains.
  • Track and maintain accurate records of stock movements in and out of the warehouse.
  • Control and maintain inventory, records and data on shipments and other deliveries.
  • Inspect and verify all outbound and inbound shipments to ensure they are accurate and free from damage.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to prevent stock-outs and minimize excess inventory.
  • Perform and report cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Stock and move existing inventory.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials using warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials against purchase orders and packing lists, documenting any discrepancies or damages.
  • Pack, stage and prepare outbound shipments to ensure materials are properly secured and documented for transport.
  • Use automated systems such as NetSuite, Microsoft Office 365 applications, etc.
  • Assist with building and preparing custom shipping crates to protect materials during storage and transport.
  • Assist with preparing shipping containers for use, including installing or repairing interior flooring and applying protective coatings and paint to ensure the containers are structurally sound, clean, and ready for safe and secure storage or transport of materials.
  • Follow established safety rules and maintain a safe and clean work environment, including shared areas.
  • Perform and assist with other day-to-day warehouse functions.

Skills and Specifications

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify, resolve and prevent issues within production and construction supply chains.
  • Proficiency in managing stock rotations (FIFO, LIFO).
  • Demonstrable experience in resolving stock discrepancies, addressing stock-outs, and dealing with surplus inventory.
  • Ability to prepare and present inventory reports.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including an ability to recognize when allocations of resources may need to be revised.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and supply chain issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to follow directions, collaborate effectively and contribute to team objectives.
  • Ability to use tools of the trade, including hand tools, power tools and forklifts.
  • Ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to speak, understand, read and write English.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry safety procedures.
  • Proficient in NetSuite and Microsoft Office 365.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not require the supervision of direct reports.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office and/or manufacturing and warehouse environment inside and outside, in all weather conditions. This role can routinely use standard office equipment and tools of the trade.

Physical Demands 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to twist, turn, bend, lift, kneel, climb, and stand.  Occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs. may occur.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, on-site, salaried position. Standard days and hours are 40+ hours per week, Monday through Friday, during standard extended business hours. The ability and willingness to work flexible hours including nights, holidays, and weekends as needed for business purposes is required.

Travel 

Occasional travel may be required.

Required Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of relevant education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated vendor management experience in a warehouse and transportation across inbound, outbound, and reverse logistics.
  • Knowledge and experience with ERP and WMS systems.
  • Certification in forklift operation preferred.
  • Packaging engineering background and APICS certification(s), a plus.

Work Authorization / Security Clearance

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal government security clearance.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment (post offer) drug test and motor vehicle record review.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS).
