Job Description

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Geological and/or Planetary Sciences or a closely related field in hand by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

     Experience in processing and interpreting visible-to-infrared hyperspectral imagery of Mars.

     Experience in integrating hyperspectral imagery, DEMs and morphological data sets to make geologic interpretations.

     Experience with Python, ENVI and ArcGIS software.

     Experience in petrographic analysis and elemental mapping.

     Has at least one peer-reviewed publication.

Brief Description of Duties:  
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigators Dr. Deanne Rogers  and Dr. Joel Hurowitz in the Department of Geosciences. The incumbent will perform research related to understanding chemical weathering processes on Mars using satellite remote sensing data as well as data gathered by instruments onboard the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover:

     Process, analyze and interpret MRO CRISM and Mars Odyssey THEMIS images to derive mineralogical information and relate it to geomorphological information.

     Participate in Perseverance rover planning meetings.

     Analyze Perseverance rover data, with an emphasis on PIXL XRF and PIXL MCC multispectral image data.

     Summarize findings in manuscripts and conference proceedings.

     Meet weekly with post-doctoral mentors.

     Other Duties as Assigned.
