A General Laborer is an entry-level position that performs general lumber mill responsibilities including stacking lumber and moving inventory. They are responsible for manual labor tasks and support production operations.
Principal/Main Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Execute daily work instructions including, but not limited to, operating saws, moulders, ect, and stacking lumber off said machine centers.
- Learn and understand quality and stacking standards.
- Ability to or willingness to learn to operate material handling equipment.
- Assists in performing basic maintenance to equipment.
- Gain an understanding of mill operations and production processes.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to safety standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Attend all safety meetings and any necessary production meetings.
- Keep production area clean and free of hazards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimal Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Prior experience in a mill and/or wood production work environment preferred.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job which may include climbing, pushing, kneeling, and lifting heavy items as well as standing for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to work in all types of weather.
- Communicate effectively with any levels/departments within the organization.
- High school diploma.
- Reliable attendance.
- Be able to lift 50#.
