Under the supervision of the Director of Children & Youth Services, the Registered Nurse – Children & Youth Services is responsible for providing skilled nursing care while implementing the medical component of the program.
WORK PERFORMED
- Provide skilled nursing care to children Identified as medically fragile, i.e., perform physical assessments, administer medications,monitorand operate medical equipment, and provide emergency interventions as needed.
- Preform nursing duties for all children enrolled in the KFICCC program; assuring their safety and wellbeing as follows:
- Check medical forms of all incoming children toassurecomplete medical packets aresubmittedand update immunizations as required by childcare licensing.
- Assure all immunizations are kept current and updated as required by law.
- Administer medications as needed.
- Assess and provide care for injuries,illnessesand potential contagious conditions.
- Post notices in all classroomsregardingreported and/or confirmed contagious diseases within the center.
- Contact families as needed for the purposes of informing them of a child’s medical condition and/or illness to include requesting early pick up if needed.
- Document all calls and/or informal conversations with families.
- Communicate with others (Director of Children & Youth Services,Program Administrator,parents, physicians, therapists, childcare staff etc.)in order toassess, plan, implement, and evaluate the quality of care/services provided.
- Attend intakemeetingwith new families falling under the medicalcomponentof the program.Provide information on a medical home modeltoall new families.Give assistance to families requesting additional help.Provide documentation for the center’s grant to show what information was provided and any follow-upassistancegiven.Develop, implement, and update nursing care plans/documentation.
- Supervise,educateand train the childcare staff and nursing students on the children’s medical conditions and in the performance of delegated nursing procedures.Assistin evaluating the medical training program of childcare staff and nursing students andimplementany needed changes.
- Under the direction of the teacher, provide classroom therapeutic support asnecessitatedby the child’s therapist and/or special educator.In order toblend in the classroom environment in a natural manner, schedule with theteacherappropriate timestoassistwith adaptive equipment, feedings and/or therapist recommended procedures.
- Provide ongoing family education, support, and referrals whenindicated.Provide and document regular monthly informal trainings and the follow-up results of these trainings.Provide formal parent and/or stafftrainingsas requested.
- Provide center support for field trips, special programs, fundraisingeffortsand neighborhoodwalks.
- Assume responsibility for continuing education, professional development, participation in KFICCC educational staff in-services and contribute to the professional growth of others.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Division Director orDesignee
Qualifications:
Registered Nurse (RN) with current licensure in the state of Maryland, current CPR certification, and some professional experience in pediatric nursing
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of standing, frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pulling and pushing.
