Job Summary: 

The Head Coach, Varsity Women’s Volleyball, is
responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for Ontario Tech
University’s women’s Volleyball program. This role oversees the coaching,
development, recruitment, and retention of student-athletes while fostering a
values-driven, high-performance team culture aligned with the mission, vision,
and core values of the athletic department and university.

The
Head Coach is accountable for all aspects of program delivery, including
training and competition planning, athlete development and program
administration. Additional responsibilities are to support the athletic
department with academic support, revenue generation initiatives, and
meaningful community engagement. Working collaboratively within the Department
of Athletics, the Head Coach ensures the program operates in full compliance
with Ontario University Athletics (OUA), U SPORTS, and Ontario Tech policies
and procedures.

A
central focus of the role is to support student-athletes in achieving
excellence both on the court and in the classroom, while elevating the Men’s
Volleyball program’s competitive success and reputation at the provincial and
national levels. The Head Coach is expected to demonstrate strong leadership,
organizational effectiveness, and accountability, while actively supporting
departmental operational goals, planning cycles, and a culture centered on
accountability, discipline, resilience, respect, and student-athlete success.

Responsibilities/accountabilities: 

Program Management

  • Provide vision, leadership, and direction for the varsity Women’s Volleyball program
  • Establish and sustain a driven, inclusive, and high-performance team culture grounded in integrity, respect, accountability, and student-athlete success
  • Serve as a role model and ambassador for the university and Athletics Department
  • Contribute to departmental planning, assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support institutional priorities
  • Align program goals with the departments and university’s strategic and operational plans
  • Promote academic excellence and monitor student-athlete academic progress
  • Collaborate with academic advisors and student services to support retention and graduation outcomes
  • Foster a culture that prioritizes balance between athletic performance and academic achievement
  • In collaboration with the athletic department, support the administrative aspects of the program, including scheduling, budgeting, travel planning, equipment management, and staffing
  • Ensure full compliance with U SPORTS, conference regulations, and university policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate records and complete required reporting in a timely manner
  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and support staff
  • Foster mentorship opportunities for coaching staff
  • Promote collaboration within the Athletics Department and across campus

Coaching &
Athlete Development

  • Plan, organize, and lead all training sessions, practices, competitions, and seasonal programming
  • Implement long-term athlete development and sport-specific performance plans
  • Support holistic student-athlete development, including leadership, well-being, and life skills
  • Collaborate with IST
    members, strength & conditioning, sport science, athletic therapy, wellness
    coach and performance support staff

Recruitment

  • Lead the identification, evaluation, recruitment, and retention of qualified student-athletes in alignment with academic standards and program needs
  • Build and maintain strong recruiting pipelines locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally where appropriate
  • Ensure recruitment
    activities comply with U SPORTS, conference, and university regulations

Community Relations

  • Represent the program at university, conference, and community events
  • Provides availability for interviews and makes players available to
    media, charitable organizations, special events and community
    requests 

Revenue Generation

  • Collaborate with advancement to support & engage alumni, donors, community partners, and youth sport organizations
  • Support fundraising,
    sponsorship, and revenue-generation initiatives as required

Required Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated experience coaching at the university, college, or high-performance level
  • Proven ability to recruit and develop student-athletes
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Thorough knowledge of U SPORTS and conference rules and regulations
  • Valid coaching certifications and safe sport training (or ability to obtain)

Required Skills: 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and strong ability to recruit student
    athletes
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and efficiently
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills. Computer
    skills are an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the
    ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse
    community

Required Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of academic system at the University level
  • Knowledge of OUA/USPORT associations

Required Education: 

  • Undergraduate bachelor’s
    degree of three academic years or equivalent related experience to coaching is required
  • Minimum
    Coaching Certification NCCP Level III, or equivalent
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered

* Verification of Academic credentials may be required

Required Experience: 

  • Minimum of three years coaching experience preferably at the University, provincial, national level, or equivalent
  • Experience working within an elite or high-performance sport environment
  • Demonstrated
    commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and value-driven student-athlete
    centered coaching
