At Meritus Health, we are committed to advancing patient care through innovation, integrity, and excellence. Our Data Analytics team plays a critical role in supporting that mission by delivering reliable, high‑quality data that empowers clinical, operational, and strategic decision‑making across the organization. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will serve as a key technical leader responsible for shaping and maintaining the data architecture that supports our enterprise analytics ecosystem.

You will own the full depth of the Bronze‑Silver‑Gold data architecture—from raw source ingestion through conformed, analytics‑ready layers—and ensure the accuracy, performance, and reliability of the pipelines that move clinical and operational data into the Epic Cogito environment. As the most senior contributor on the team, you will guide technical direction, uphold architectural integrity, and lead stewardship of the Epic Cogito platform, including Turbocharger package management, Content Manager, and environment monitoring through Epic upgrade cycles. You will also serve as a resource and mentor to mid‑level and junior engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design, development, and maintenance of ETL/ELT pipelines across Bronze‑Silver‑Gold data layers

  • Manage data ingestion from on‑premise clinical and operational systems into Epic Cogito and SQL Server environments

  • Develop and optimize complex SQL stored procedures, ETL logic, and database objects in SSMS

  • Serve as primary steward for Epic Cogito platform components, including Caboodle, Turbocharger, and Content Manager

  • Oversee Cogito environment monitoring, maintenance, and support through Epic upgrade cycles

  • Ensure architectural consistency, data quality, and performance across all layers of the data platform

  • Translate business and clinical requirements into technical specifications and data models

  • Support regulatory and compliance needs, including HIPAA, Meaningful Use, and TJC requirements

  • Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers, promoting best practices and technical growth

  • Collaborate with analytics, clinical, and operational stakeholders to deliver reliable, actionable data solutions

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Health Information Management, or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience

  • Seven years of progressive data engineering or analytics experience

  • Minimum of three years working in a clinical or hospital environment utilizing the Epic system

  • Hands‑on experience with Epic Clarity and Caboodle data models in a production environment

  • Working knowledge of Chronicles source structures and Caboodle dimensional design

  • Expert‑level SQL proficiency with demonstrated ability to design and optimize complex stored procedures and ETL logic

  • Experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines and data extracts in on‑premise SQL Server environments

  • Experience with Epic Cogito components including Caboodle, Turbocharger, and Content Manager

  • Familiarity with HIPAA, Meaningful Use, and other healthcare regulatory requirements

Licensure/Certification

  • Current Epic certifications required

  • Candidate must hold at least two of the following: COG170, CDW110, CLR110, COG240, CDW300v, CDW320

  • All certifications must remain current

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Deep understanding of clinical documentation, orders databases, workflows, and Epic master file structures

  • Ability to translate business and clinical needs into system specifications and data models

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to apply technology solutions to improve workflows and operational efficiency

  • Expertise in evaluating system functionality, data structures, and relationships across complex environments

  • Proficiency with SQL, Power BI, SSIS, and Epic reporting tools

  • Strong working knowledge of web‑based technologies, analytics tools, and development/configuration platforms

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, technologies, and organizational needs

  • Demonstrated leadership skills including meeting facilitation, conflict resolution, and project planning

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and clinical teams

  • Highly self‑directed, detail‑oriented, and organized, with a proven ability to drive change and build strong relationships
