We are seeking a highly skilled HVAC Maintenance Lead - HPC (Facilities Operator) with hands-on expertise in liquid-to-chip cooling technologies for a high-density, mission-critical data center. The HVAC Lead will oversee all aspects of HVAC and thermal management systems, including advanced liquid cooling infrastructure, traditional air handling, and mechanical support equipment. This role is pivotal in ensuring uptime, energy efficiency, and cooling performance.

Job requirements

  • 7+ years HVAC experience in commercial/industrial facilities
  • 3+ years in a mission-critical environment (data centers, hospitals, clean rooms, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Hydronic cooling systems
    • Liquid cooling distribution (e.g., cold plate, direct-to-chip)
  • Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and PLC controls
  • Ability to read and interpret MEP blueprints and P&IDs
  • Strong diagnostic skills in thermal systems and fluid dynamics
  • Leadership experience in a technician or supervisory role
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in hot/cold environments
  • On-call rotation required for emergency response
  • Work is performed in a live data center—strict protocol adherence is critical
Preferred Certifications
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification
  • HVAC Journeyman License or equivalent
  • Training in L2C (liquid-to-chip) or immersion cooling preferred
  • OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E a plus
  • CMMS or Work Order Management System proficiency

Other important requirements:  

  • Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies. 
  • Must provide own steel-toed work boots; other PPE will be supplied.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to the work site daily or have plans to relocate before starting work.

Job responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations and maintenance of HVAC systems, including:
    • Liquid-to-chip cooling systems (CDUs, manifolds, pumps)
    • CRAH/CRAC units and precision air handlers
    • Chillers, cooling towers, and glycol loops
    • BMS-integrated thermal control systems
  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance programs (PMs) and procedures for both traditional HVAC and liquid cooling systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system alarms, temperature/humidity excursions, flow issues, and mechanical failures.
  • Coordinate with electrical, controls, and IT operations teams to ensure thermal load alignment with computer hardware.
  • Lead or assist in commissioning new cooling infrastructure during buildouts or retrofits.
  • Supervise HVAC techs and contractors; assign tasks, inspect work, and ensure adherence to standards and safety.
  • Provide operational data and reporting to support KPI tracking (e.g., PUE, temperature delta, coolant flow rate).
  • Maintain detailed logs of work performed, system readings, and equipment changes.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety procedures, including LOTO, confined space, and chemical handling.
