Job Duties


The Department of History & Interdisciplinary Studies at Norfolk State University seeks
applications for adjunct professors of Geography. The Department offers five curricula in
History, four in Interdisciplinary Studies, three minors (Interdisciplinary Studies, History, and
Africana Studies), a certificate in African and African Diaspora Studies, and fully online degree
programs in both History and Interdisciplinary Studies.
The successful candidate will:
1. Teach an on-campus undergraduate course including “Principles of Geography” and
World Regional Geography,
2. Engage in exemplary face-to-face and use the university’s learning management system
(Blackboard Ultra),
3. Collegially engage with students, staff and other faculty members, and
4. Meet university deadlines for submitting grades and other reports.


Minimum Qualifications


Demonstrate a strong potential to effectively teach Geography.
Demonstrate potential to effectively use an online learning management system.
(Blackboard Ultra or similar).
Demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching.
Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, personal integrity and a
demonstrated commitment to diversity.


Additional Considerations


1. Experience teaching Geography courses in higher education.
2. Possess a PhD in Geography
