Open until filled Additional Information: Show/Hide - Promotes positive relationships and fosters improved communication across schools, administrators, and educators to bridge communication and collaborative efforts for and with MEL students and their families.
- Plans, informs, and/or facilitates MEL family engagement and educational opportunities which need to include beginning-of-year registration information meetings, evening Newcomer family classes, and any other instances that will support MEL students and families to engage with the Tooele County School District school system.
- Meets regularly with MEL Specialists and MEL team to review, support, and plan for students' individual academic progress/success.
- Provides on-going research and guidance to MEL students regarding post-secondary options including application and scholarship opportunities.
- Encourages and promotes MEL students and their families' participation within school and district activities by email, newsletters, flyers, etc.
- Communicates and shares program information to keep school staff and MEL students and families informed of Student Services offerings.
- Maintains open communication with administration, school teams, and parents/guardians to work together to improve academic success with school attendance, academic performance, and social emotional needs of MEL students.
- Provides updates and communication with TCSD administration and teachers.
- Coordinates efforts and activities with other TCSD Student Services Liaisons to promote and support family engagement efforts across the district.
- Bridges communication efforts between departments and schools with MEL students and families through translating and interpreting support.
- Works collaboratively with Student Services team members to influence positive progress within the student advocacy scope.
- Manages document submissions from across district departments and schools for translation services.
- Helps the Title III Multilingual English Learner Program with identification and qualification processes, which also includes WIDA screening and digital documentation support.
- Provides annual WIDA ACCESS testing support to district testing teams as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Federal Programs Director.
- Must be 21 years of age or older;
- Must have a valid driver's license (traveling is required for this position);
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; preference towards an associate degree or higher
- Experience working with diverse cultural populations or similar multicultural organizations;
- Previous successful experience working with students and school educational teams;
- Proven ability to organize, coordinate, and facilitate program activities involving families and/or groups of students;
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students, parents/guardians, and employees at all levels in the organization and with others in the community;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, understand and follow data privacy rules and regulations related to students;
- Ability to be a self-starter, work independently and proactively;
- Ability and proven record of reporting to work regularly and punctually.
- Strong working knowledge and experience using digital productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Suite, Google Apps, Canva, spreadsheets, etc.)

Job Summary
The Multilingual English Learner (MEL) Family Support Liaison, working under the direction of the Federal Programs Director, will work closely with TCSD Multilingual English Learner (i.e., English Learner) students and their families to advocate, support, and communicate MEL students' needs within the district/schools. The MEL Family Support Liaison will provide translation and interpretation services across the district for a variety of meeting types/purposes. The MEL Liaison will support inclusive practices for promoting family engagement while also communicating to families and students the services/offerings available through the district and local and state organizations. Seeking a candidate with experience and knowledge working with diverse cultures and languages. Must be able to work occasional evenings and additional summer days (prior to the school year starting). Fluent language skills in English and Spanish are preferred but other language skills will be considered.
