Job Description

About the Department

Under general supervision, the Engineer Technician assists the engineering team by performing technical engineering requirements of the distribution system and performs all work in accordance with safety regulations, company policy, and OSHA standards.
 
Because the Authority has a primary responsibility to serve the public 24 hours a day, an employee in this class is expected to work overtime as conditions demand and on short notice during emergency conditions.

Position Duties

  • Prepares sketches, specifications and drawings, including engineering calculations involving authorized work.
  • Conducts periodic voltage surveys.
  • Prepares drawing and specifications for construction standards.
  • Recommends routing of lines, capacitors and voltage of electric facilities.
  • Surveys route for distribution system.
  • Determines size, location, angle, and elevation of poles.
  • Uses drafting equipment for sketching.
  • Prepares work orders, analysis sheets, and materials list.
  • Inspects construction projects; estimates cost of construction.
  • Works in coordination with managers and Engineering Technician II.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of surveying techniques and practices.
  • Knowledge of distribution construction, operations and maintenance practices and standards.
  • Knowledge of applicable sections of the National Electric Code and National Safety Electric Code.
  • Basic knowledge of distribution mapping.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity and electrical mathematics.
  • Skill in the use of surveying tools and instruments.
  • Ability to understand and prepare line construction drawings.
  • Ability to prepare job orders and basic estimates.
  • Ability to complete computation using electrical formula and equations.
  • Ability to prepare clear, complete and accurate drawings and plans.
  • Ability to complete computations using basic electrical formulas and equations.
  • Ability to use basic computer software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with constructors, co-workers and all others contacted during the course of work.

Other Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate Degree in electrical engineering or other related field, and two (2) years of experience in engineering inspection, surveying, drafting, layout, and staking.
