Job Description

The 7th Grade Social Studies/Science Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing instruction aligned to state and district standards in both social studies and science. This position supports the academic, social, and emotional development of middle school students by providing structured, standards-based instruction and fostering a classroom environment conducive to learning.

The teacher will implement instructional practices that promote critical thinking, inquiry, and the application of knowledge across disciplines. Responsibilities include developing lesson plans, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies, assessing student progress, and collaborating with colleagues to support student achievement. The position requires the ability to effectively manage a classroom, communicate with stakeholders, and maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver standards-based instruction in 7th grade social studies and science
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with district curriculum and state standards
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to support student learning, including direct instruction, inquiry-based learning, and collaborative activities
  • Assess student performance using formative and summative measures and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Integrate literacy skills, including reading, writing, and analysis, into content instruction
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress
  • Establish and maintain effective classroom management procedures
  • Create and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and administration to support student success
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns
  • Participate in required meetings, professional development, and school-related activities


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
  • Valid state teaching license appropriate for middle school social studies and/or science
  • Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices
  • Ability to manage a classroom effectively
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred:

  • Dual licensure or endorsement in both social studies and science
  • Experience teaching at the middle school level
  • Knowledge of inquiry-based or project-based instructional strategies
  • Experience integrating technology into instruction

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move instructional materials up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to bend, reach, and engage in classroom activities
  • Ability to operate standard classroom technology and equipment

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a school setting with regular interaction with students and staff
  • Classroom environment with moderate noise levels
  • Work follows a standard school calendar and daily schedule
  • Occasional extended hours required for meetings, conferences, and school events
  • Requires collaboration and coordination with multiple stakeholders
