Duties

Safely operate equipment such as bull dozers, motor grades, tractors, pavement rollers, and motor trucks as well as small power equipment such as chainsaws.,Operate equipment on land and barges.,Perform basic maintenance on equipment utilized.,Secure loads and ensure applicable permits are obtained before transporting.,Perform maintenance grading on levees and roads, establish ditches on existing roadways, and reestablish foreslopes and backslopes.,Utilize equipment to push and grade or load and relocate material such as earth, riprap, and gravel, clear brush and stubble or tree stumps, and cut weeds and grass.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element applicants should document experience and/or show the ability to operate heavy equipment to safely push and grade or load and relocate materials, establish ditches on roadways, clear brush and perform maintenance on such equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Ability To Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle) Operation of Motor Vehicles Reliability and Dependability as a Engineering Equipment Operator Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Heavy physical effort is required in operating equipment controls. Considerable strain is encountered resulting from vibration, jerking, jolting, etc., in operation over rough surfaces. Because of location of controls, may be required to work in awkward or strained positions. occasional lifting up to 50 pounds is required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather, usually in an open drivers seat or partially protected cab, on a variety of terrain and soil conditions of the types mentioned above. Employee is exposed to the possibility of equipment overturning and subject to normal power and hand equipment operational noise, dust, vibrations, fumes, or other injuries. Employees are required to follow established safe working procedures. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided to minimize or reduce hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.

One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a(n) CP 18 Engineers and Scientists (Resources and Construction) position. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
