The Public Works Department seeks to enhance the quality of life for all residents, businesses and visitors of the Town of Wake Forest through responsible and sound management, innovation, teamwork, and vision, and to provide dependable, high quality, responsive public works and utility services, at reasonable costs.

Description: 

The Public Works Department seeks dynamic self-starters who wish to develop their skills, make professional connections, strengthen their resume and most importantly, gain valuable work experience. This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the field of Public Works while working for Local Government.


Hours:
 
20-30 hour/week - Schedule to be determined.

Position Duties

Duties and Responsibilities


Under direct supervision the intern will perform various projects including Solid Waste cart inventory and audits, roadwork resurfacing tasks, signage data entry and mapping, digital archiving processes for various divisions, assist with recordkeeping exhibit creation, re-evaluating SDS records for accuracy, educational/outreach opportunities, work on litter prevention program and education, gather residential collection data, organize cemetery information and inventory it, inventory and data entry for fleet equipment and items as necessary, work on transitional documents of administrative staff, tree identification inventorying, and other various projects as assigned by Public Works Staff.  Please note that this position is subject to the availability of funding and is not eligible for Town of Wake Forest employee benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current interest in Public Administration, Business Management, Sustainability, or another relevant field.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and be adaptable to learning other various programs.
  • Must have a valid NC driver's license and driving record in compliance with Town policy.

Physical Abilities:

  • Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, reach, climb, see, hear, talk, read, write, and follow oral and written directives.
  • May be subjected to uneven and/or muddy terrain, noise, chemical exposure, and adverse weather conditions.
