Job Description

Contract: 12 Month FTC

Location: We welcome applications from those looking to work 1 day from our Support Office in Handforth.

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑channel retail environment at the heart of Pets at Home, the UK’s leading pet care business. As a Business Analyst within our AI Transformation & Enterprise Architecture team, you’ll work across a wide range of disciplines including Retail, Finance, Ecommerce, Vets, Grooming, Distribution, and our Support Office.

Blending strong business analysis with forward‑looking AI thinking, you’ll help guide stakeholders to make confident, strategic decisions. You’ll identify opportunities to automate processes and decision‑making, shape robust, data‑driven business cases, and translate complex challenges into clear, prioritised requirements that deliver real value.

The role offers the chance to build hands‑on experience using AI in a live business environment, supporting our ambition to adopt innovative, practical AI solutions at scale. You’ll act as a trusted adviser, constructively challenging thinking and navigating ambiguity to unlock meaningful outcomes for pets, customers, and colleagues alike.

We’re looking for someone naturally curious, resilient, and comfortable with complexity — confident working at pace, asking the right questions, and turning uncertainty into clarity and action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with business and architecture teams to identify high‑value, AI‑enabled opportunities aligned to our pet‑first strategy.

  • Lead analysis to uncover pain points, efficiency gaps, and technology‑led improvements with measurable impact.

  • Run workshops and stakeholder sessions to define clear, prioritised business and technical requirements.

  • Map as‑is and help develop robust and performant to‑be processes, identifying where AI, RPA, or other technologies can streamline operations and improve experiences.

  • Develop robust business cases outlining benefits, costs, risks, and options to support investment decisions.

  • Act as a trusted bridge between business and technology, translating complexity and managing competing priorities.

  • Support delivery, vendor selection, and post‑implementation reviews to ensure value is realised and lessons are learned.

About You

You’re an experienced Business Analyst with a strong track record of working in medium to large organisations, ideally within retail, FMCG, or other customer‑centric environments. You’re comfortable building robust business cases, quantifying benefits, and influencing strategic decision‑making at pace.

You bring solid expertise in process mapping, requirement elicitation, and documentation, with experience translating complex problems into clear artefacts such as user stories, use cases, or BRDs. You have a working understanding of AI, data analytics, or automation technologies, and are keen to explore how these can unlock tangible business value. Having experience in Business Process Re-engineering will be integral to delivering increased efficiencies and value.

You’re a confident stakeholder partner, able to navigate ambiguity, adapt to change, and constructively challenge the status quo. With a naturally analytical mindset, you can interpret data, communicate insights clearly, and support evidence‑based decisions. Curious, resilient, and forward‑thinking, you thrive in fast‑moving environments where no two days are the same.

We take our inspiration from pets in embracing people from all walks of life, and we value, respect and celebrate difference. We encourage our people to be their best selves so that we can create a better world for Pets, our Planet, and People.

Our ambition is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and we are intentional in addressing and removing barriers to create opportunities for the exceptional talent and potential in our communities.

Even if your skills and experience don’t perfectly align, if you think you can make a unique contribution through your values and behaviours, we want to hear from you.
