Job Description

Report To: Building Principal/Athletic Director


 


The secondary Health and Physical Education teacher must possess a strong background in health and physical education content. Provide a variety of physical activities in a safe and orderly environment in order to improve students’ health and wellness as a lifelong goal. 


 


Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Teaches physical education and health skills and concepts to grades 7-8 learners in accordance with the Arkansas Curriculum Frameworks for physical education and health wellness and leisure.

  • Utilizes curriculum and pacing guides, adopted course of study and other materials in planning lesson plans and teaching outlines.

  • Participate in yearly curriculum review and design

  • Implement a variety of instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives

  • Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely manner.

  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

  • Create a class and school environment that focus on maintaining physical and emotional health as a lifelong goal.


Other Job Responsibilities:



  • Abide by state statutes, code of ethics , school board policies and regulations

  • Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators and supervisors

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.

  • Remain current on instructional practices in education. (e.g. instructional technology)



  • Coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.

  • Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises.

  • Assesses player’s skills, monitors players during competition and practice.

  • Supervises athletes during practices and competition.

  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.

  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.

  • Maintains the equipment room in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security.

  • Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach.

  • Submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.

  • Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.

  • Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.

  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.

  • Coach Jr. High Volleyball

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications: Must hold or be eligible to receive a valid Arkansas Teaching License with Grade 7-12 Certification in Health Wellness and Leisure; Coaching endorsement
