Job Description

Title: Assistant Principal 


 


Reports to: School Principal


 


Supervises: All teacher, instructional assistants and other adjunct curriculum staff and specialists.


 


Job Summary:


Assist the principal in the evaluation and observation process to ensure high-quality instructional programming is implemented at the school level. Ability to execute daily tasks as determined by the principal, which includes supporting students, teachers, families and the community to meet school and district goals. 


 


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • A valid Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate (or proven eligibility) with Administrator or Supervisor endorsements.

  • Master’s Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required. 

  • At least (3-5) years of successful experience as a teacher, administrator supervisor.

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.


ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Assists the principal in the supervision, evaluation, and observation of teachers and other staff members. 

  • Develops a working knowledge of the TCPS instructional process to support teachers with lesson planning and instructional deliverables.  

  • Conducts learning walks with the principal and supervisors to support teachers and by providing meaningful feedback and celebrating success within the classroom.   

  • Assists in the management of the various school reports, records, and other documents required for the school’s administration.

  • Supports, participates, monitors, and provides input at team meetings including, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), at grade level and special education meetings. 

  •  Coordinates or supervises student activities such as students health services, clubs, interscholastic sports activities, dances and other extracurricular school functions.

  • Supports the principal in the process of continuous school improvement to ensure student success, which would include the development/implementation of the school improvement plan. 

  • Engages in professional learning and leadership meetings. 

  • Maintains professionalism and sound ethical practices, and exercises good judgment. 

  • Develops positive relationships with students, staff, and families. 

  • Performs other tasks and responsibilities assigned by the principal.

  • Communicates effectively with students, staff, and families. 

  • Works collaboratively with other schools, supervisors, and district leadership. 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:


Exempt position. Ten, eleven or twelve month year. Salary to be established by the Board.
